  1. Ya but local communities talk.If a big buck is taken then someone tells so and so then so and so tells so and so and so on.The pics get spread with the cell phones and you hear.It might not make huntingny's forums but you will get word.If you don't it is mostly cause it was shot on posted land or some one shot it illegally.
  2. both eyes open.I never shoot or even pull any thing up to aim with out both eyes open.Even a scoped weapon. If its a walking deer i put my sight on the target.i aim at the point of impact untill i have my shot. While my eyes are both open.
  3. welcome Eric.Well safety in any hunting is as safe as the hunter.During Big game you have to worry about stray bullets and guys shooting any thing that moves. So wear lots of orange and shoot straight.Practice your shooting alot.Buck fever is something that no one can stop.It will make the bravest of men miss a shot. And a missed shot could be an unsafe shot if you don't know what is behind your target. Do you have your Hunters Education class all taken care of?And there is one for bow hunting also. They are free. And very informative. I would start small game hunting with a .22 or a good air rifle.Great times for you and your kids to tag along. While hunting the little critters you can scout your areas for big game. You can print out maps and make plans on where to hunt the area for deer.Taking into concideration your entry or exit to area. The feeding and bedding sources of area.Trails you find in area that may lead to and from bedding and feed and just plain corridors.Lots to learn.Even the best there is can't explain how these animal act. Small game hunting opens up all this scouting possibilities while your kids and your self can enjoy the woods.Possibly taking home some rabbit or squirrel for dinner. You can take out the shot gun to hunt some grouse. Also scout in the mean time. And there is always ducks. They also require a class too.It is also free. And please, please get into goose hunting.I hate the things.Sorry for my personal selfish opinions.I hate geese. They are a blast to hunt too.Can be expensive to hunt.Steel shot isn't cheap. But lots of fast shooting. Good luck.Get out there and enjoy gods gift.Nature.
  4. bow?hell no.And mine isn't worth more than 150 on a good day. Why?because you never know what could happen the next day. This year during bow i thought about leaving my climber at the bottom of the tree cause i was going to hunt it in the morning.I decided not to cause "you never know"Well i was at hospital for the next 3 days cause my son was hurt.Even on private land it would possibly be gone. But...I do think leaving my bibs and outer jacket in a think trash bag in the woods is a good idea.So i don't have to truck them in and get sweaty.I never know for sure where i am going to hunt the next morning though.Could change my mind in a second on my way in the woods in the following morning.
  5. haha. You can see their eyes glow when they look up at ya.
  6. Ya i know.I just started ice fishing 3 years ago. After moving here from florida 8 years ago i don't remember the old cold winter days. But it is just a thing in nature.I know that year i started we were ice fishing on the lake in fulton 2 weeks before christmas. So i think it wont be this way forever from now on.I think it will go back to the days my uncle talks about.Hopefull this january and february will be great.I know this year started out pretty crappy so far.I wan't ice.GIVE ME ICE!!!
  7. good supposedly he is still alive.you would know if he had been shot thats for sure.Couldn't keep that a secret.LOL.
  8. haha.ELMER's getting hip up in here.LOL.
  9. you can find me on here.http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=16.0 My handle on there is toes-r-froze.I am usually on there during ice fishing season.
  10. If you look at the other pictures and zoom in you can see way too many similarities. It looks like a drop tine on the one i posted too.Its just the head is in two different positions so its hard to be certain.
  11. Can't eat coyote.LOL.Last year i only went twice.Hope this yr is better. No ice last yr.
  12. i have been to chamount bay and henderson too.Henderson kicks but cause you can see the fish on their way up like 12 feet down.Cool to see.Have pulled some slob perch out of there.
  13. does this look like the same buck?
  14. the gear really makes it more comfortable. You can sit on the ice on a bucket with your wind to the back but that can get quite cold real quick.A shanti is the way to go.With a little heater. Then it can get real comfortable.Maybe one weekend you can come up and hang in the shanti.I have a two man shanti and getting another one man plus i use my hunting blind chair too.Hehehe.it works.I have snowmachine for this year too.So i don't have to drag it all out by foot any more.
  15. I do.I love to ice fish.Something to look foward to at the end of a good or lousy deer season. where do you fish and what for. I fish sandy pond mostly for perch but this year i plan on doing quite a bit of onieda lake for perch and walleye. Might try for some pike but not much into trophy fishing.Im a meat fisher.
  16. ???????????? Also you are not allowed to use a .22 for a coup de grace on a down big game animal in NYS ??????????? I don't understand this?
  17. I have set my bow up for them at night with lighted sights and red lights on the silencer and all that jaz.Was neat target shooting at night.but after a few hrs of sitting in a stand late at night over road kill i was like"is it really worth it"?LOL.I was all stoked to get one with a bow at night too.LOL.
  18. If they voted for Obama then they wouldn't be much of a "HIGHER" intelligence.LOL.
  19. so is it one of those deals where felons are allowed to carry one?Is it actually considered a fire arm?
  20. I vote no to half hour before.Maybe 15 mins. But on a cloudy day like this morning i could see half hour before but not like i could at sunrise. It was still pretty dark with all the cloud cover. If they make it 30 mins before people will be shooting at 45 mins before in those conditions. Its kind of like the 85 mph speed limit in Texas.Just a matter of time before they say "what have we done"?When people are dying from doing 95 mph cause they are used to doing 10 over the limit.
  21. Ya.Thats the typical. If it was easy we wouldn't be so obsessed with doing it.Sometimes i get my best success when i just rely on flipping a coin and forget about all the science.
