Be careful if you order one. He will probably try to grab your wife of GF's "youknowwhat."

When I worked at a Conservation Camp run by the state of VT, we used to get road killed moose. I know how that sounds, but it was amazing. We would marinate a pile of moose steak, then cook it with the kids in foil packets on wood coals with onions, carrots and potatoes. It was top quality eats!

I am through 3 seasons of Peaky Blinders. It's good, but a downer. I watched Godless and enjoyed that quite a bit. I agree that Frontier was a bit hokey, but still worth watching. It's good to hear that The Punisher was worth watching. I found the character a bit annoying when he appeared on Daredevil. I somehow missed that Vikings came back on, and Comcast won't let me go back and watch the first 3 episodes of the new season. TV is such a scam... Looks like a warm up on the way anyhow, as in rain on Thursday, so I will be able to get out of this recliner and do some stuff!

-15 here. No wind either. Another day of coffee by the woodstove and Netflix I guess. One of these days I need to get out fishing!

-7 this morning. Temp topped out at 0 this afternoon. Back down to -7 again already. I don't know what the windchill has been, but I didn't spend much time out. Fed the birds and brought in firewood. Getting stir crazy with all this sub zero weather!

Dear Belo, I just don't care to convince you. You are way more invested in this imaginary, unspecified survival situation than I am. The OP asked, and I answered. I wasn't trying to convince anyone to carry a .22. I don't own a .223, so I wouldn't be carrying one. Meth? Really? That's what you're worried about? Let's pretend... Nah. Carry on imaginary soldier. -

Keep daydreaming about the apacolypse Belo. I'm pretty sure that I learned about knockdown in the military as an infantryman and an MP. I'm amazed what people think they have the knowledge to lecture on. People are terrifically fragile. .22 bullets are accurate, light, and plentiful. A .380? Really? I thought you were a proponent of knockdown? I guess you have the end of the world all figured out. My plan would be to be far away from people. The question was what rifle for survival. 10/22 or Nylon 66 for me. -

All you tough guys spend way too much time thinking about this stuff. People aren't any tougher than squirrels IMO. For surviving in the woods, I would use a .22. I can see the benefits of a .223 in the case of a societal meltdown. My bet is that more ammo would be a bigger benefit than more firepower. -

A .22 round in your noggin would "change your mind". -
Ground Blinds
stubborn1VT replied to NonTypical's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Another vote for Primos. I was disappointed in the Ameristep "Bone Collector" blind I bought. The fabric was thin and ripped after one season. I have been meaning to build a homemade round bale blind, but haven't gotten around to it. I don't have a shop to work in. I'm all for building "brush blinds", but I would like a good hub style blind for moving around during bow season or wet days. -

I would go with a .22. Nothing like being able to carry thousands of rounds. Not much you can't kill with one in a survival situation. I would opt for a bolt action over a semi for reliability, but would probably settle for a 10/22 or a nylon 66 for capacity. People probably don't care for the idea, but the Athabaskans and other northern people hunt have hunted everything (including moose) with a .22 caliber. -
Lotta names for the same thing. You an expert Belo?

Ok Biz Miller! Go easy on that purple stuff!

Yeah. I wear a low heel logger in the winter with a composite toe. They're heavy enough to do some damage!

They say that gas stations are high risk. I also heard that they have computer programs that generate the numbers independently, so they aren't hacking you, but pulling the number out of thin air. Not sure if that's true.

I bet they try to use the card numbers on holiday weekends, so they have more time. I really am glad that my bank was on top of it. It's not a huge deal to get a new card, but I will have to wait. At least this site is free!
-
Glad they resolved your charges. It seems like banks are good about it. I guess they need to be, since it's so darn common.

Got a call from a fraud center yesterday. Someone tried to use my debit card to buy $400+ worth of stuff at a Dollar General in North Carolina. They flagged the purchase, so it didn't go through. They called and let me know, and told me to get a new card. All good. Trouble is, my bank won't be open until Tuesday. Meanwhile, Netflix tried to process my automatic payment and it was declined because my debit card is suspended. Today's high is supposed to be 4 degrees. The projected wind chill is -17. So, no ice fishing for me and no Netflix. These are First World problems, so it's no big deal. I would like to get my hands on the person who hacked my card and put the Chippewas to them... by order of the Peaky Blinders!

I think they are just throwing ideas out there, not attempting to change policy. I get what they are arguing for, but their goals seem better suited to managing properties than the entire herd. I get what you're saying. None of this debate has any bearing on what the DEC does. It should be fun to debate it, but it never ends up that way. I wonder if there is any one person that has the smarts to manage the entire deer herd. It sure as heck isn't me!

Who has winter trail cams out?
stubborn1VT replied to genesee_mohican's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I leave 2 out here at my house. I have 4 others out on other properties that I meant to pick up. Between work, the holidays, and this cold snap, I haven't got there yet. I will replace batteries and leave one of those up for survivors. The rest probably won't go up until next August. -
I wonder if it's anything like the green M&Ms.

It warmed up to 10. Boosted the tractor and let it idle for 10-15 minutes. Pulled it out of the barn and it gelled. Screwed with it this afternoon. No luck. Battery is weak. No fuel shut-off, so changing the filter will be a mess. Good times. I should've just gone fishing...
