  1. I was never fired, but 2 of the local machine shops "let me go" because they hired under false pretense.....back then the labor laws were lax. A company would hire you, work your butt off and when the Gov't contract was completed, they would "let you go" with some made up reason like " we don't see that you have enough exp to remain with us here so we need to let you go. Well I had enough exp to work there for 2 years and you had no complaints and even gave me raises, soooo?
  2. While in school I worked for a local farmer and at the high school on the CETA program (painting, cleaning desks, buffing floors etc.) then went in the Army. From there I worked as a dish washer, gas station attendant, worked for a company that pulled up old track and bundled railroad ties (rough azz job that was) then worked for a nursery planting seedlings by the thousands, worked in a 3 different sewing factories as a presser, 3 different security jobs of which 1 was armed, worked for Mack Trucks parts dept., worked as a machinest in various locations, picked up/delivered cars/vans for a rental company, sold Kirby vacs door to door (LOL) , mason labor, framing labor, worked for a large local tire care company (Jack Williams Tire) for 6 1/2 years as an over the road commercial tire service tech which included loader/backhoe/gradeall etc tires, then to my current job of 22years as a ready-mix driver. May have forgotten a couple in there but, basically tried different things at an early stage just to keep the $ flowing.Oh and lets not forget, raised 3 spawn and happily married for 32 years
  3. I have 2 out since early rifle NZ. I may get to them by spring/early summer ha !
  4. I felt the same way when I bought the NY property so I could Sunday hunt.......then the taxes went up on the off grid glorified tent and cost more than my house and property here in Pa. where I am on the grid. I too thought it was greener on "the other side in NY".
  5. I have this posted somewhere but can't find the thread....anyway, here is an epic porky tree I have below the cabin. The "dung pile" is easily 3ft thick and a good 6ft or so across.
  6. On my property and surrounding properties in 6K(West Amboy) last year, the guys took 22 down. I didn't get a count yet from them, but I would guess it is way down due to the snow depth.
  7. I saved the inner straps for middle of winter munchies....what should I do with these tender little morsels?
  8. I have seen it a few times in the bush but here is a quick video of them grooming in LI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G0Nx14igoE
  9. You can scope a dbl rifle and still be accurate enough for ethical kills. The guys that have the safari show on tv do well. This is a prime example of a TRIPLE gun, scoped. I would never pay this kind of scratch for a rifle, but to each... http://www.gunsamerica.com/998314297/Outstanding-DOUBLE-RIFLE-DRILLING-by-Le-hanne-of-Crefeld-in-8-7-X-75-X-16-Gauge.htm I think inserts would be the way to go if possible, my choice would be to buy a nice used gun already set up.
  10. Bothers me when then and than are not used correctly and also ect. instead of etc.
  11. Well, the wife pulled into the driveway yesterday with a steam cloud coming from under the hood so ended up fixing that in 10 degree weather,,,,,upper rad hose, not too bad a fix. But when I drained some of the coolant it had trans fluid mixed in. The cooling lines run through the radiator (which was new as of June 2014 with a lifetime warranty). Sad to say I can't find the damn recipt. So after replacing the hose in the cold temps yesterday,I am not going to go out in single digits today to put the snowthrower back together that was supposed to be fixed on the "nice" day yesterday.Today is a day of keeping the fire cranking and eating some food then nappy time then more food and feeding the fire.
  12. Wife says the same thing....so I pulled them out of the ground...root ball and all! She got a kick out of it....
  13. This is so cool! http://hdontap.com/index.php/video/stream/great-horned-owl-cam and she is on the eggs right now, they are the earliest birds to hatch eggs.
  14. This is just something to help pass some time this long, cold, snow filled winter. http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1592549&mode=2
  15. This guy is pretty darn amazing. I like when they slow it down. Not sure you can fix the quality of the video but it's not too bad. http://www.alloutdoor.com/2014/05/07/fastest-gun-world/?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=2015-02-07&utm_campaign=Weekly+Newsletter
  16. I hunted deer up yonder and the bugs were pretty easy to handle at that time of year,BUT you say June.....you will need 4 units of plasma, some tubing and hypos.....just sayin. Be safe and GL with your hunt.A lot of good advise has been given here.
  17. Been around firewood all my life, the whole family used it....my uncle was a logger. I have used it since we bought this house 21 years now. It has saved me thousands I am sure.Oil prices until now were sick. A few years ago we decided to buy a load of logs which ran ~$650 and we figured ended up about 9-10 full cord. We bought a splitter, cut, split and stacked it here.Ended up burning the wood for the next 4 years. Figured we didn't need the splitter after we got done with the truck load,so sold it to the neighbor for close to what we actually paid for it.He offered us to use it any time we wanted to but didn't work out well, another story. So we started buying split, seasoned by the P-Up load for ~$90 delivered/load. Then when we bought the NY property we ended up using firewood for the main since we are off grid and went and bought another splitter just for that.I was splitting all by hand for the first 4 years there but time was being wasted by that method.I would rather take 1 weekend with the splitter and have enough for 3 or 4 years than have to split every time I went up by hand.It works best when you have time constraints.I like seasoned wood to be atleast 1 year old but love when it's 2 or more and 4 or 5 year seasoned burns the best. I can't believe what some of you pay for a "face" cord. Anything over $60 is rape for a row of wood. One guy I deal with when he has the wood, delivers an F450 dump truck with high wood sides load for $100 all seasoned oak. When I stack it,it's pushing 3/4 of a full cord....guess I'm spoiled . In my travels to and from camp I have seen prices range from $45 to over $75 per face and some of it was really rough looking. I may be going to pellet here next year at the main house, wood is getting harder to handle and 1 place is enough to deal with on top of that the stove it tired.....like me.
  18. Free 22 ammo giveaway from USCCA. Not sure if this where this belongs but give it "shot". https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/FreeAmmoGiveaway/Ammo22-A.asp?ID=Second-Media&SID=Jan2014_SecondMedia_DEB_A
  19. A different cam with a better angle.
  20. I had put a cam on my blind for when I was not there,to see if anything moved on the trail in between.Needless to say,not much action during the day time. Also some pics from the cam just below this one, near the river.
  21. Mostly yotes but a fox had a visit too.
