That's just it...we are not happy here. Without going into details, we are ready for change, the kids are gone we aren't getting any younger and want to enjoy the outdoors more...we love our property in NY and don't get to spend enough time there so there is only one way to get that needed time there...live there.
-
Very familiar with the winters there....got stuck at the cabin for a couple days here and there from past winters lol. I will have to see the local tax people or call the lady in Oswego....she has helped out big time in the past with tax issues.

Yes, good bye Pa. and hello NY! We bought the NY properties 7 years ago and had a cabin built, which was shell only and then we finished it off, had a contractor put a driveway in, built a large shed for the toys etc. We have a walk in shower and facilities like everyone else. We use gas for lighting, fridge cooking etc. I will be adding a 12v system and solar.

.....lets move north to the cabin, quit our jobs, sell the house and just enjoy some off grid life. So I says to myself, self , you have the best woman in the world , do it before she changes her mind . We sold the house and will close on ~21 Dec 17 ! We are going to stay at the sons house until sometime in March before we move north. I do have a couple questions though for the forums users. When I get there in the spring, when , how/where do I change my DL address, do I have to take a drivers test all over? How long do I have to live there to get resident status for my hunting license etc. I have been in Pa. for 53 years and I am clueless to what I need to do with these things. I will be going to the local Post office for address change etc. With both mortgages paid off and some other CC bills paid off I will have enough left over for a garage and a full size backhoe and a 14x16 addition on the cabin for a sweet eat in kitchen. As far as income, I will be doing everything I can to get in to Lowes or Home Depot in the spring. I don't need to make a ton of money nor do I want 40+ hrs a week and I want to do something I actually enjoy doing. I have been delivering concrete for 25 years and quite frankly it gets worse every year. No more CDL. I have 2 properties that border each other and was told that I can combine the 2 properties once I pay the NY mortgage (in house loan) off and this will save me tax dollars by doing so. I can call the nice lady in Oswego that takes care of this stuff for help on this topic. But I am wondering , has anyone actually combined property and did you actually save money by doing so? Well, as always, thank you for any and all help.

Greg I used this site for my new cast iron and it worked just fine...and yes get your pan hot but not too hot, before you crack an egg in it.http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-season-a-cast-iron-skillet-cleaning-lessons-from-the-kitchn-107614

Weekend before last I was up the cabin and got a tick, a big grey one and didn't find it till the next day,all dug in. Now I have to see the doctor on Saturday and see what he says. No bulls-eye but still a red area. That was near Parish in West Amboy. Ticks suck....

Pulled the cards and see some hope for the season....although they never stay put.

Not so sure the Capt. would allow it on the boat (Thermocell) but would work just fine IF you had 0mph wind speed, otherwise pretty useless. They work great at camp with very low to no wind days. Good luck on the trip!

Stevens model 5100 shotgun question
Single_shot replied to RangerClay's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
What you have IS a mod 311 from what I can gather... Read through this from shotgun world http://shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=274526 also the same here from 24 hour camp fire http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/5589219/Re_Stevens_Series_5100_Shotgun not that it really helps you, but maybe can give you more to search on. Good luck with your search , that's a nice old timer! EDIT: Heck, I would give these people a call. ya never know. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Products/1402440A.htm EDIT: According to this website http://www.poppertsgunparts.com/index.htm they do have your barrels for Mod 311. I would call them first. -

Do this do that to reduce this or that.....really? That kid needs a boot in his back side but good! Over 80mph ......he needs to see some real ER video of mangled bodies from speeders and see what he's in for. It won't be him in the ER, it will be a mother and her children. Sorry if the truth scratches the hair the wrong way but come on.

Prayers sent, sorry for your loss.

Happy belated, hope you had a wonderful day!

Nice work....and a basement too!

Our ranges....all that I have been to, are really nice and used to be "free" . Not any more though...... whatever... I guess our license fees just don't cut it to upkeep a few pieces of pine board and some tyvek...etc. Any way, we need to pay to use them now. But, they are nice. http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=620410&mode=2

Nonresident hunting in ny with 30 cal ar
Single_shot replied to Slaynbux's topic in General Chit Chat
The statement was jokingly made about flintlockers.....I don't see many guys that are wannabees at the range....the guys I see either are,was or will be OR are not in military clothing but are wearing camo hunting clothes. I live out in the sticks and the local range is out even farther in the sticks so you see quite a bit of every walk there but certainly no wannabes. I see guys every day at work that wear camo pants for work, they do fit and wear well compared to bluejeans. -
I thought this was going to be about things starting to sag or something......what a " let down".

I say to each their own as long as it's legal and you can take game in a manner which is humane. What you look like makes no difference. I mean, look at some of the flintlock guys and the way they dress....buck skins, coon hats, squirrel pouches...haha -
Yeah....it sux. I need to give the fruit trees attention soon myself. And get to the 2 cams I have had out since NZ rifle season Depending on weather I may get up in the next 2 weeks...I hope.

In all honesty...NEVER spray or oil the internals of the bolt! Learned that the hard way when I had a bolt freeze. As far as a light spray on the trigger assy. maybe, not sure there, never done it. I wipe things off and call it good. Unless you're someone who shoots a lot and I mean like a thousand rounds a week kinda thing, I wouldn't worry much about wear on moving parts....I do oil the trigger assy from the outside and then wipe it off, leaving the inside alone. I oiled a Mod 700 bolt from the fire pin hole and had the bolt freeze. Further inspection in the field of said bolt showed that when the trigger was squeezed, the bolt would move , but at the speed of smell, thus not fast enough to do anything to the primer. Big mistake, good lesson learned. EDIT " Spellink

I have a good pension plan in place and will have 30 years in and retire @ 58 (most likely semi-retire as I like extra $ for hunting stuff) and to keep busy. Don't think that because most of us bounced around in the younger days, that we don't have enough time to grow the nest egg I and probably everyone here can name a friend or 2 that will never get anywhere because they STILL bounce around and will never be able to retire. I think it's a good thing to be a jack of all trades as it builds character and gives one knowledge in an array of different fields of work/life.

I have a Mod 700 semi inlet bench(RH) rest walnut stock that some crafty person with much time on his hands would be able to craft into a sweet bench rest target rifle. It has surface stains from something but they are just that, surface stains. It needs to be worked and sanded etc. to be finished so the stains are nothing to be worried about. It is semi machine inletted for Rem mod 700 not sure if short or long action. If you need measurements to verify that, let me know what to measure. The grain is very nice on it. I was going to build a target rifle but just don't have the time or tools to make that happen, so it has been sitting in my safe doing nothing. I'm looking to get $45+ship.
