  1. I guess that I should point out that the recoil pad that comes on the Boyd stock is pretty lame. My rifle is a 7-08 and it doesn't kick at all, but for a larger caliber rifle you may want to consider purchasing an replacement recoil pad like a sims grind-to-fit or something similiar...
  2. I bought one of their stocks (prairie hunter in pepper laminate) for my Marlin XS7S. The price is very reasonable, the fit & finish is very nice and it looks/feels much better than the factory synthetic stock. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one for any future rifle I may purchase!!!
  3. I put in three hours over the weekend checking out some cloverfields and came up empty. I'll probably try again this weekend even though I think that most of the bucks are still carrying their headgear around yet.
  4. You mean like this? http://www.fieldands...knowing?photo=3 In no way would it be the same to me as shooting even a 120" wild deer.
  5. 4 antlerless: #1 Bow - 8P #2 Bow - 8T #3 Rifle - 8R #4 Muzz - 8R
  6. These are exactly my feelings on the matter too. I am a predator to my core and when I release that arrow or send a bullet on its way my intentions are for a deer to die by my hand. It's a very natural act to me, no different than any other animal be it a coyote, a wolf or a cougar hunting for its food.
  7. Believe me when I tell you that I've walked a whole lot of miles over hundreds of acres to find those!!!
  8. That a pretty impressive first year's haul that you've got there!!!
  9. The headgear carried around by these two deer are at the top of my most wanted list for this spring: I found my biggest/favorite shed to date (68.5") this past March and it belonged to this ancient old bruiser of a buck. He's not much for tinelength but his mass is unbelievable. He was seen alive and well on x-mas morning in the same place he was hanging out last winter... The nieghbor kid found the matching side a few days prior... Then there is this guy. I hunted him all gun season but he never showed himself. I did see him twice while spotlighting during the first week of December so I'm certain that he made it through season. I found one of his sheds back in March too. He really grew from 3.5 to 4.5 and should be a monster this year...
  10. There are some real beauties sitting on that bench!!! So, those are all from suburban deer?
  11. Nice shooting!!! I had thoughts of trying the squared-up device myself. Can you post a pic of it on your bow? Btw, those robinhoods started losing their "coolness" after you ruin a few arrows. I've got 18 in my collection now from the past 6 years. You're bound to get a few after sending several thousand arrows down-range!!! If you ever set out to actually robinhood an arrow you'd never do it...
  12. I'm sitting here bored out of my mind so I decided to dig out the shed collection. Here's what I've picked up over 4 years of looking (74 sheds, several broken mainbeams). As you can see, this ain't Iowa...lol! Man, I can't wait to get out there in a couple of weeks and start walking around trying to add some more to the count.
  13. Lots and lots and lots of walking around looking for these!!!
  14. I currently shoot a CVA Optima Pro, it's not too bad of a gun but cleanup would be alot easier with a breech plug that could be removed by hand instead of having to carry a breech-plug wrench around with me. With that being said, I'm eyeballing the Traditions line...the Vortek looks pretty darn nice for the money!!! The TC brand is no doubt the hottest name in the market right now, just like with Mathews in the bow world...if you put your product in the hands of enough "pros" on the Outdoor Channel it becomes the "best" and everyone wants one. Not, trying to knock TC in an way, but you end up paying alot extra for the name.
  15. I found the first "freshie" of the season last year on January 2, but I saw a buck that had lost one side a few days before x-mas. I'm sure that there are a few bucks around that have dropped already. Good point. I usually will hit up the fields where the deer have been feeding through out Jan./ Feb. (during the antler casting period) several times during the winter before entering the bedding areas to search when the snow melts off enough, usually in mid-late march. I saw over 50 deer the other night out in a couple of clover/alfalfa fields that I shed hunt. Mostly does but I did see a bachelor group of several nice bucks. I can't wait to check this spot out in a few weeks and see what might me laying out there...
  16. Man, that gets me fired up...it's like opening day all over again!!! I'm planning on waiting it out until mid-January to start any serious shedding.
  17. Actually, the landowners are one of my best friends parents and they've been waiting on me to get them some venison. I also shot them a deer earlier in the fall on crop damage permits (they own a dairy farm) at their request...
  18. Thanks, she's the largest doe that I've ever killed. I just wish that I could have gotten the job done with my bow. This old girl is getting turned into burger and canning meat for the landowners...
  19. I shot my first muzzleloader deer yesterday afternoon. I've been after this old gal (aka "Big Mama") for the past three years...I figure that she's got be around 6.5 years old. Saw her several times during archery season but not close enough to put an arrow in. Anyways, she came out to the cloverfield a little too early and I put a 250grain Hornady sabot through her lungs @120 yds. Pretty good way to cap of the season (may give it one last try tonight).
  20. I emailed the pics to my buddy and he confirmed them as the ones that he had seen. Still don't know how they came up with 26 points? Is that monster 12-pt. that your brother posing with a NY deer? That is an awesome buck right there!!!
  21. Dave, What area of the finger lakes was that bruiser from?
  22. Man, that sucks for you bro...that is a STUD mainframe 9-pt!!!
