Little Freak-Nasty Returns!!!
WNY Bowhunter replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
He's certainly doing a good job at getting busted up. Last year he snapped his right G2 off sometime between when I got pics of him on 12/29 and 1/4. You wouldn't think that that would have been from rut-related fighting... -

The whole thing with this buck and his busted up rack is throwing me off. To me, he's seemed like a very timid acting deer around the other bucks and very non-aggressive. By late July he kind of turned into a nocturnal loner and was only occasionally photographed with the other two bucks that were regular visitors to my trailcams. The several times that I saw him spotlighting through August/Sept. he was always by himself and didn't seem to associate with the other deer feeding in the cloverfield. I really don't know what to make of him? All I do know is that I'm very pleased to see him still alive and look foward to seeing what he's gonna be as a 3 year old. Last year in Mid-October... All busted up in early January... -

I read that story too. Individual bucks definately have their own distinct personalities. The buck in this thread had been like a ghost all summer/fall. I'd get a pic or two of him and then he wouldn't show up for another 3 weeks - month. He was part of a trio of two year old bucks and he was by far the least visible of the three. It almost seems as though he acts more like a 5 or 6 year old... -
A buddy of mine at work was telling me that there was a 26 pt. taken this past saturday near the Bluff of Keuka Lake (Yates County). There were pics being passed around at a basketball game over the weekend along with the hunter's name. Has anyone heard anything reguarding this deer? It may be a bunch of internet/cell phone BS for all I know? My buddy is trying to get a pic...

There is not nearly enough ENCON presence throughout this state to even begin to effectively enforce a one buck limit or AR's...

The deer is legit, but the story is not. Check out the Northeast Big Buck Club website... http://www.bigbuckclub.com/gallery.htm Go to: Search Parameters___Posted___Last 15 days That deer is listed as a pick-up/roadkill from Becket County, MA...not NY. Makes you wonder how stories like this get started?

Little Freak-Nasty Returns!!!
WNY Bowhunter replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Nope, I saw him while spotlighting the farm on the way home from work this morning. Hopefully, he wanders by my trailcam down in the corner of the field. There was a beautiful 10-pt. out here the other night too. -

Still alive as of this AM!!! -
I find at least a couple of unrecovered deer every year during gun season. This season I found a dead 10-pt (just a skull) during bowseason and a doe. During gun I came across a 4-pt., a buttonbuck and another buck with his head sawed off. Don't think it was poached (wasn't there on Nov. 19), rather, someone found it first and took the rack. During my shed hunting ventures this past spring I found over 20 dead deer from January to mid-April...

Found this 10-pt. doe back in late December of '09. I'd been watching her for 3 years...

The pics with the thumb in them IS DEER HAIR, but ISN'T the same tuft of fur posted by the OP. I took those two pics to illustrate what a tuft of deer fur looks like...
-
Here's a tuft of deer hide. I'm guessing that fur in your pics to be from a coon or an opposum...
-
That's doesn't look like deer hair to me...

I'm a bit confused as to whether or not you can legally kill two bucks during the late season that starts on monday? Looking at the Reg. Guide it appears that the Regular Season tag can be use for an antlered or antlerless deer in the late season and if you have your Bow/Mz Either Sex Tag that is still valid too. So, can you legally tag two bucks during the final 9 days of season?

Another monster from the Ithaca area?
WNY Bowhunter replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I'd rule in favor of a mainframe 3 X 4 with 5 abnormals but it sure is a tough call. Why would anyone shoot a deer that would be so hard to score anyways...lol???!!! -
Another monster from the Ithaca area?
WNY Bowhunter replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Where did it say he was taken at? -
A buddy of mine sent me this pic saying that this buck was killed just south of Ithaca in a town called Danby. All I know is that there is a current year's NY tag affixed to his rack (I blurred the guy's face out). Anyone from the area know anything about the deer? Come on Joe, where you at buddy???!!!

Huge Buck Ithaca/Cayuga Heights 16 pt?
WNY Bowhunter replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in Bow Hunting
That's exactly my attitude too. I love watching deer throughout the year as much as I do actually hunting them. It's fascinating to me to witness the antler growth throughout the summer and from year to year as a buck matures. Finding a nice shed off of a buck that you have history with is as big of a rush as punched a tag. I have way too much respect for the animal itself to take one out with a "cheap" shot like that just to have his antlers on my wall... -
Whats on your Christmas / Holiday Wish List???
WNY Bowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
I just hope that the deer (not Santa's reindeer) drop all their shed antlers in a big pile out in the middle of a field so I don't have to do so much walking trying to find them this spring... -
Your buddy's deer is a beauty!
-
He was bedded last night in a small cornfield (posted up tight) that is only seperated by a hedgerow from the cloverfield where I been waiting for him for the past two weeks with my 7-08. I just bought a new scope for my muzzleloader. I hope to get her fine tuned this weekend. Maybe, he'll mess up and come out a little early one of these mornings/nights but it's doubtful. Honestly, at this point..I'd be just as happy seeing him around next year as I would putting my tag on him this year. Good luck to you too if you still have your late bow/muzzle either sex tag.

Believe me man, I'm trying to!!! There aren't any fences around these deer...they know where to hide onces the guns start going off. If it were that easy they would have all be killed as yearlings. My main problem has been I have access to these deers feeding grounds but not the bedding areas where I might see them during legal shooting hours...
