Finally!!! It's been a long dry spell but I finally found shed #2... -
I'm so pumped up for turkey season that I can hardly stand it!!! Just wondering what calls everyone uses to bring home the birds? I am a huge fan of crystal pot calls. My current go to call is my Twisted Sister crystal made by NY callmaker David Halloran. This call has proved deadly over the past three seasons, luring 10 gobblers in to the gun. I just added David's new Metal Mouth call to the line up too...it sounds AWESOME!!! I hope to break it in in KY in three weeks...

Just came in from field testing my new crow all and heard my first gobbles of the year!!!
-
Saw my first strutter today!!!
-
My wife and I went driving around this afternoon doing a little turkey scouting and saw 150+ deer. We saw plenty of really small deer that made it through the winter. I'm optimistic that in my area the winterkill wasn't overly severe.
-
The youth that I took out for the past two springs is too old this year, but he has a younger brother that is going to go. There have been four big old longbeards hanging out on the farm where we killed last year's bird. Hopefully, they will stick around for a few more weeks. Last year...all done by 6:00!!!
-
What's everyone seeing around for turkey action? I saw several small flocks out in fields today (about 50 birds total / 17 longbeards in the mix). Thankfully, they seemed to have fared the past 6-7 weeks pretty well. There was no strutting going on today even though 3 out of the 4 groups of toms were with hens. They all seemed to be far more interested in scratching up some food over romance. Can't blame them after what they've just been through...

What are you using for turkey season?

Just didn't pattern very well in my gun. Lots of people love them though. -

Tried the longbeards last spring and they were a HUGE disappointment!!! -

Gun = Browning BPS / 3.5" / 26" barrel Load = Hevi Magnum Blend Choke = Pure Gold .670 -
I tried getting out to walk some fields looking for sheds today and all of the spot that I wanted to check had deer out in them already...so, I just let them be. As I mentioned earlier, I'm seeing a lot of fawns which makes me optimistic about the winter kill. Winter isn't over yet but conditions are certainly FAR better than they were even a week ago. Saw quite a few turkeys today too.

The deer have really been like crazy here in 8P/8R over the past fews days. From my personal observations there are plenty of fawns still alive and kicking..so that's good news. The snow is going quick in some of the fields but still pretty deep in the woods...
-
Poor little thing, nothing but skin and bones. I've been seeing plenty of fawns lately, hopefully this thaw will get rid of a majority of the snow over the next week and give the critters some relief.
-
We have probably 15" or so on the ground here in NE Steuben. There are lots of deer tracks around so I guess that means that there are still living deer in the area...hopefully, the warm up next week will get a lot of it melted off. Hopefully, I won't find too many carcasses when I start my serious shed hunting in 2-3 weeks.
-
Thanks. It's so much shorter and lighter than my 3.5" Browning Turkey slayer!!!
-
Obviously, I haven't got to field test it yet, but...the vinyl conforms to the gun super tight like shrink wrapping so I don't see moisture being an issue.
-
Yep, it's some good stuff!
-
I just pimped out my wife's 20 guage!!! Before: Just a plain stock gun, Undertaker choke / Win XX #6's Bought it just before season last spring so I didn't have time to get it set up right, but it still got the job done... After: Mossy Oak graphics kit, Tru Glo sights, Quake Contour sling, Sims recoil pad,TruGlo SSX choke / Fed. HW #7's Haven't got to pattern it yet due to the frigid weather that seems like it's never going to go away, but...I'm confident it will be an improvement over last year. I may even polish the barrel too. Hopefully, she'll get to try it out in KY in a few weeks!!!

2015 Shed Hunting Thread - Post your finds!
WNY Bowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
Only one so far for me. Starting to get a bit discouraged... -
I think all three are two year olds...

I was out doing a little shed hunting yesterday and was surprised to find the woods absolutely torn up with turkey scratching (saw about 25 birds in the field). Had these three guys stop by one of my trailcams... I would love to put a tag on this one. Looks like he may be multibearded?
