  1. Peep sites on all but one of my muzzle loaders.
  2. if your using T7 , try a 50/50 blend of windex and water on a patch to swab the bore to get the crud ring out at the range, works great , then go home and clean.
  3. spend the money , butches , Montana extreme and other make great products to clean and preserve for storing.
  4. Randy and Toby both get paid to praise then once they get fired they bash.
  5. The cva's of today are much safer then the past. You should have nothing to worry about.
  6. I would get the impact or wolf over the bolt cva. If you shoot bh209 you will be shocked at how clean the barrel is . There is no need to swab the barrel inbetween shots. Shooting loose powder vs pellets is far more effective , you can raise or lower the charge in five grain increments. There is no need to shoot 150gr to reach 150 yards. 100 gr is more then effective at that range. Most shock wave aka sst shoot nice groups. You could try .452 xtp pistol bullets in 250 or 300 grain and buy the sabot separate from harvester or mmp. Far cheaper to buy bulk then pre packaged bullets. If you choose to shoot t7 or pyrodex powder a simple water/ windex blend will clean the barrel in one or two swabs.then run a dry patch and shoot again. Depending what model wolf you get you might need a different plug to shoot bh209 or modify the existing one. Western powders sells one as does cva. Don't look past some conical bullets like the fpb, bull shops or no excuses. As for pass throughs, I will take them every time . If it were me I would choose the impact.
  7. Bill Leary was a well known butcher in the Capitol district, he is no longer processing deer. Does anyone else know of a butcher in the Albany area or Capitol district. Yes I know how to do it but its just easier to drop off and have it done.
  8. Powder valley has xtp in stock in .452 300gr if anyone is looking
  9. Powder valley has xtp in stock in 300gr if anyone is looking
  10. Try numrich in Kingston/ ulster park. They have everything
  11. If your shooting the xtp mag I don't think you can push them fast enough to get proper expansion. The regular xtp is a better choice in an in line muzzle loader for up 1800 fps
  12. With the ammo craze it might be hard to find them, I use the .452 300gr in my ml. On line try cabelas, graff and sons, powder valley, midway or mid south shooter supply. Hopefully one of them has it. I don't use the Mmp i use the crush rib sabot.the xtp probably has killed more deer then any other bullet on the market . If you can find them try the speer deep curls in the same .452 250 or 300 grain. They are a better made bonded bullet.

    Thunderbolt

I got it yesterday , if I can figure out how to post pics I will. It cleaned up really nice , the BP is a little mashed up but I already had a spare. I spoke to Doc White and he said it was a earlier one that was made. He gave me some load data to try out. I am reaching out to Steve Brown to try to find a spare plug and ram rod. The freaking scope base must have been put on by superman , I am still try to get them off so I can install the Lyman peep site. All in all very excited and happy with it.
  14. Try cva or western powders for the plug. i have seen people open up the flame channel and I think even some have installed a vent liner ala savage style

    Thunderbolt

Stainless steel with laminated White stock....soon as she arrives I will try to post pics.
  16. I finally accquired a white thunderbolt , it's been a long wait but I am very excited. Don't think I will use it this season but hope to dial it in ASAP.

    Whites

There are a couple nice Whites on gunbroker , thought I would pass it along . I saw a nice X7 in the mix too , I have both a White and X7 and they won't ever be sold.
  18. All my shots are under 100 yards. I doubt you will see much difference from 250-300 gr. I use 90-100gr of triple seven and a .452 300gr deep curl or .452 300gr xtp non magnum which are better for muzzle loader speeds. As for the 460 grain bullets I site them in my white one inch high at 50 yards and that' gets me dead deer at 100 with open sites. Maybe shooting 200 yards you would need to hold over some more. I have not shot that far. Check out Doc whites site on trajectory and bc of the heavier bullets. Great reading.
  19. What gun and what powder are you using??? Montana Extreme makes a great product line of cleaning supplies . I just got some Butch's blackpowder bore shine and want to try that out Ditch the bore butter if your asking me.
  20. All I use are 300-350gr bullets and sometimes a nice chunk of lead at 460grains.

    crud ring

Try swabbing some windexwater 50/50 combo then run some good oil down the bore. Or try soaking the barrel in warm soapy water followed by oil. When using T7 you will need to swab the barrel in between shots. What gun are you using.
  22. http://www.edsgunshop.com/ People love or hate power belts , myself will never use them. There are far better choices out there. The above link also stocks just about every muzzle loading supply you will need at great prices. Carlos is the guy to talk to when calling. Steve
  23. Look up Ed 's gun shop in North Carolina , call and ask for Carlos they can ship bh209 cheaper then anyplace I have seen with no hazmat.
  24. Bh209 is nice and I have used it before , but its $$ compared to T7. If you do choose to shoot BH209 give Carlos at Ed's Gun shop a call. He has a way to waive the hazmat fee. Some people don't like pellets as you can't tweak your load in increments but some get great accuracy with them as I do. If you shoot T7 a simple windex water blend on a patch will clean it up very nice. You may get what's called a crud ring after a few shots and will need to swab the barrel. For bullets , .452 XTP in 250 or 300gr would be a good round to start with. Many buy bulk sabots like the crush rib from harvester or MMP sabots from Del Ramsey. Its much cheaper to buy bullets and sabots separate rather then the pre-packaged ones. I too like the FPB from Hornady but some say it won't load in a tight CVA bore. You can remove the breach and push the pellets then bullet out no problem, I have tested both the removed sabot and bullet and have seen no difference in POI from new to removed ones.
