  1. We pretty much got it handed to us today. 4.5 hours on the lake and not a walleye to be seen. A couple perch. So many boats it looked like the party barge navy was out there. We came inot the canal and threw the shorelines with senkos for some smallies for the last 2 hours. Got a few for high noon fishing so we had some action. So was last Sat a strikeout and then Sunday had a limit by 8am. So maybe that will happen again......
  2. i once caught a pickerel on a bottle opener. it had a hole in it so I put a split ring and treble hook on it and tossed it out! Caught more on that than some lures i own. lol
  3. grew up camping pretty much all summer. My Mom and step Dad had a fifth wheel huge camper and were just so into it and my Dad had a camp in Lewis county. Had fun at all the places for sure but I will never own a camper. By the time you buy the camper, the vehicle to pull it, pay for a site (which now have become very expensive) , the towing, all the stuff you need, the setup of everything, then winter storage and flushing the lines etc etc..... just a Pita ! Then you park in a campground that has someone next to you that has 3 dogs 6 kids and 4 coolers of beer ( and they dont share) . Much rather just pull up to a rented cabin with your food and stuff and have a vehicle to get around in or pull a boat with. Can rent a camp for a whole week somewhere and actually save money and be comfortable and have a shower etc. Had lots of good times camping but also lots of rainy days where you couldnt do much and were stuck in a damp camper. But learned a while back to rent your fun and that making camper payments in Feb sucks! lol The camp was way better and nowadays renting a camp or house somewhere is just the way to go. With the vacations rentals available in so many spots the options are endless. As adkhunter^ said above - "a lot of people buy these things, use them a handful of times and never use them again" - cause they realize its more work and money and less vacation.
  4. Hunted up there a few times in Indian lake area. Never saw a bear but saw sign and bears while driving.
  5. Yeah but we are stubborn. He just sent me a message that he is spooling up a rod with some braid and a mono leader just for sonars.
  6. turning stone has a little 9 hole course here that you never use your driver for. Its damn humbling just to play that one. The main course Adunyote is like $250 a round. Never played it but have seen it and its just beautiful , cant imagine some of these like the masters.
  7. okay I actually got a walleye on one of these this weekend. Perch color! But fishing buddy Corey has been doing some research on these. He says the front hole is for casting them, the middle hole is for vertical jigging and the back hole is for trolling! hes a damn genius! This summer i think we need to take a day and thats all each of is allowed to fish with and see if we can get it right!
  8. you guys got me all fired up for some hooksets into those smallies! Im thinking the weekend plan has got to be early sat walleye fish and then sunday bass fishing.
  9. Both work great but different tactics. Senkos are good for skipping under docks and trees and into the junk. They work better in shallower and weedy situations. The drop shot on smallies off breaks and/or deep water or weed edges is a winner too. Can use both in either or but can't skip the drop shot or bounce them on wood or under docks , where the drop shot works better when you need to get the lure deeper or working some open water. Although rigging them wacky style works pretty good that way too. Both are winners.
  10. Shes probably used to it cause her head is up her ass most of the time. Woww
  11. I did the same at Walmart. Bought all they had in a couple of colors i liked. Now I can't seem to ever find them there. I also like the 4" better. But a good day on the lake and can go thru a couple packs of them. And damn pickerel ruin them everytime.
  12. yeah they are so great but at Bass pro they are $8 a pack - wow. The YUM brand is like $3. Although they dont seem to have the salt and same texture - its close enough at that price.
  13. damn fan boys!! lol just kidding. Honestly i have always wanted to try a higher end bow to see what the difference is for shooting - so many swear by the Matthews , but i havent pulled the trigger on one. Gonna be a few years still cause I bought a new bear 2 seasons ago and i really love it, but one day.......
  14. got a longtime buddy that just snatches them up and they become meat! One time i stopped at his house and he had 4 of them in barrel . Love going to his cookouts always got to ask "whats this?" not afraid to try it but like to know - could be turtle to Caribou!
  15. thats what got me hooked as a kid as well. Out in a rowboat with my Dad just after dark and throwing a Jitterbug. You hear that "whop, whop, whop" of the jitterbug working and then "Splash" and set the hook! too dark to see the lure get hit but you could hear it! and the new weedless frogs make life a lot easier for fishing. Looks like it should be a good day!
  16. that looks like perfect froggin water. Love those top water hits!!
  17. good luck! hope you do well. Nice boat for Oneida and those days its gets wavy! Indians name for the lake was "Tsioqui" which translates to "white water" . It gets a serious chop to it. If your going out from messengers bay esp at night watch out for that messengers shoal. Its marked by bouys but its ground in the middle of the lake. But its also some good fishing right off from it. I have fished the lake for years and have never seen a musky. My fishing buddy saw one in fish crick a few years back but havent ever met anyone that caught one or even saw one. If you have any luck there woudl sure love to hear about it. i fish the lewis pt area a lot so might see you out there! good luck and have fun!
  18. Where you launching out of? It's been a great walleye spring for sure. I've been doing well in 22 ft of water . Haven't tuned into the perch yet but hoping to. You'll see the groups out there all fishing in same area .....dont be fooled they aren't all catchin fish most of the time. It seems like people think they are and keep joining to find out they aren't. Lol. Cracks me up everytime Been getting the eyes on spinner and worms rigs. Perch colors have been the best. Good luck I will be on Oneida too first thing sat morn... Oh and you mentioned tigers..... Have you caught them out there before?
  19. And we better see pics of that Grampy boat out there , it misses the water!
  20. It's such a tussle..... Lol. Usually I would be out after bass and I just know with the late season the smallies will be stacked. But I just can't give up on how good the walleye bite has been . So thinking me and fishing buddy Corey are going to start with walleyes and if that doesn't pan out move to bass. If the lake is too rough the canal it will be and flipping senkos to 4 lbers for sure. Last year on the way in he caught a 5 lb smallie right at the launch site as we were waiting for someone to load up.
  21. Bear porn. Guess they aren't shy Lol Pretty cool pics, never see bears around here at all.
  22. That's great! There are trout, bass and even walleye there early in the spring. It's as far as they can get when spawning and running up the river from the lake and some just seem to stay there. Great pic and catch by your son. Congrats
  23. There is some quality fishing up there. Some nice little trout streams. And the reservoir on the whetstone has some nice bass and tiger muskies. Never known or heard it to be great deer hunting. Also some very good rabbit hunting years ago though.
  24. I had this same outlook with a walk behind weedeater. Figured a little hard work I wasn't afraid of. So I bought a wheeled walk behind trimmer to cut some high grass that grows on our lease property. Well it does work better than a regular trimmer for sure but also after a few hours and some real sweat and blisters on my hands I got done what a brush hog could've done in 20 minutes. Lol. When I came back out to show my buddy what I cut , there was a HUGE area all cut. He said "you did this by hand???" No way in hell lol..,. The landowner saw what I had cut and was out with his brush hog and cleared a ,300 yard swath for us. Whew saved my hands and back! Gotta love good equipment.
