  1. i use the blizzard covers. Can see thru the covers but can flip them up if they get too much water or snow on them .
  2. its interesting to see what people use. Everything from 20-12 g shotguns or 243 rifles up to .300 wins . There was even a 16 gauge which you never see anymore. My Dad had a browning sweet 16 when i was a kid. Wish i had that gun but he sold it during some hard times and i remember back then he got a lot for it. Im sure that wasnt easy to do. But best of luck and hope all those guns have deer in the crosshairs this season.
  3. Weather forecast is looking better (7F) here for Sat. Rain after 10-11 am and winds 10-20 mph. That's a go for sure.
  4. If my superpower was eating ( and it just might be) the Lima bean would be my kryptonite. Blah. I like almost anything but Lima beans.......nope. not on a plane, not on a train, not in the rain,.....nope. lol. Glad there weren't any pics even.
  5. looks like a crime scene..........for 4 legged offenders!
  6. when i was a younger man and was working two and or three jobs. I was lucky to get out 1 or 2 times. One year I hunted the last day of season and had two doe tags and ate them all but i did get out. Was glad i had a long season to get out once.
  7. if have to use shotgun thats a good one to use. Got a doe last year with mine at 130 yards. Liked the gun just not the avail of ammo. If I had to only hunt shotgun I wouldve kept it for sure.
  8. are you in a shotgun only area? I had a 220 - 20 g and traded it in cause i got ticked about not being able to find ammo for it. I like the federals - after i couldnt find any remington accutips - tried those and liked them better. Then couldnt find those either. Got ticked and traded it towards a browning BLR 30-06
  9. I guess if it makes the wife happy you better do it.....poor guy....forced to hunt by his nagging wife. Lol. Good luck. Hope she's right. And even if she isn't she probably still is.
  10. Always interesting to see what guys show up with on opening day. I'm taking my old Winchester model 94 30-30 that my Dad said if I got half he'd get the other half, 30 years ago this year. So definitely have to take that out for the opener.
  11. And right now the forecast for Sunday is possible heavy lake effect. Will prob only be able to see that far
  12. wishing i could hunt from ground blind- although i do hate them! Where we gun hunt you have to be elevated as the brush is so bad. Otherwise cant see more than 30 yards. maybe i can wrap myself up in it to stay dry at least. And two guys on our lease already bailed for the gun opener so its just two of us this year - thats gonna be weird
  13. i just counted it up and it ended up being 104 deer ! lol and.......i miss bow hunting already........
  14. This is him on trailcam 80 yards on the other side of my stand just before season. Lol. Well I was in the right area at least.
  15. This was my last day to bowhunt. And this year had the perfect scenario. Killed early meat does and was able to hunt just for a biggie! Passed on a broken up 8 and a 4 and a spike. I have never gotten a big wall mounter. So I was after a big 9 at both the places I hunt the most. So I spent allllll day in the stand yesterday and hunted agian there this morning. 100 yards from where this pic was taken. The people that let me hunt there took this in the field across from their house today. ( I did get 75 yards from this boy once but he was all over and chasing a doe). Had a great season. Saw over 90 deer in the stand. But gotta laugh that this is how it ends.....
  16. Deer movement has really slowed for me this week .but that always seems to happen right before gun. This eve us my last sit of bow. Hoping for a good one to come out. Regardless it's been a great season for me. Have seen over 90 deer in the stand this year and have seen some nice bucks just not quite in the right shot window. Have doe meat in the freezer so it's all good. Then onto the gun opener sat. Sunday here looks like the possibility of heavy lake effect. Should be an interesting weekend
  17. This is prob the best reason I have heard. But does it outweigh limiting opportunities for others to hunt? Wpuls we rather have the chance of a longer season and more time in the woods to get that buck or less time but more big bucks available. Tough call. But I don't like a shortened season push to make more bucks avail to bow hunters or because the season is too long and I don't wanna hunt that long. I still think we have the best of it all and after opening day to me it seems that the woods quite down again. And with so many less hunters these days I think that also helps bucks survive. With deer numbers in most areas very high and some very generous seasons I think we have it pretty good
  18. Why? Can't see an advantage to shorten it. If it's too long dont hunt it all. Other guys only get out on weekends.
  19. Yeah that would suck. Plan all year and there ya go.....esp ypur best spot. Maybe at least the weekend opener you can have some peace
  20. My ass prob has a realtree stamp on it now cause I sat allllll day. Saw a good buck at 8:30. Had the crossbow up and safety off but never a shooting lane. Then nothing right til dark. Tomorrow is my last crossbow/bow day and in the afternoon fat tasty does might be back on the menu.
  21. Seems like there are lots of deer about. I wouldn't be afraid to hunt it because a couple of does busted you. If your target buck did then that might be a different story. Looks like a great spot. I have one stand i cannot get into without getting busted no matter which waybor wind I come in on. Still see lots of deer there.
  22. Here's the funny part too WNY. I started this topic and am a die hard bowhunter. Lol but I thought it wasn't right or make sense to shorten the gun hunting season. A die hard bowhunter sticking up for other hunters . I do gun hunt but mostly just like opening day. So much for us elite bowhunters wanting it all to themselves. Lol
  23. wow i guess so. Have seen some real little ones that could walk right under a 3 rail fence in the fall, even one time a little spike that i bet weighed 45 pounds but never one with spots still like that. Hope she makes it thru the winter thats such a late start
