head north young man! To me looking for game to hunt in NYC is like looking for a Taxi in the Adirondacks. You might see one..... but your gonna be waiting a while........ good luck always good to hear there are hunters downstate for sure.
-
shoot the 8 , throw it in the truck ! he wont mind the ride to the Dacks I am sure.
-
dunno bout the deer buts that where i would be if it got me out of that wind for sure. I hate groundblinds but its days like this I always think I should have at least one setup.
-
yeah sitting in this weather in a treestand isnt even close to fun. I am not going out til Sat afternoon. But if you are out on a walkabout its a good idea. Windy so deer will have a hard time picking out movement. a stalk with a crossbow might pay off. Plus its just warmer to be walking. good luck.

is what he was thinking just before the buck came up the trail..........

I need to start drinking more of this fine wine right away. My usual domestic beer or two doesnt have these effects. Havent seen any dancing at the base of the tree... maybe some squirrel porn here and there....but no dancing.
-
he was found deceased. They are looking into what happened. Would guess heart attack of course.
-
i would be in - if my tree stand was higher....... cause if i have to listen to that i am gonna throw myself onto the doe to make it stop! lol

True! the wind was still good this morn there and he sat til 11 and saw nothing. I had deer on every side of me both days. He is now 100 yards on the other side of the same trail due to the west wind change. But true that wind change might be the cause. Although he has seen one deer in range all season. Dunno why, he says he does scent control etc.... he's just unlucky......?

my buddy is in a stand where for the last two days I saw 15 deer and 2 yotes. hasnt seen a thing all day.......how can this be.....

Such a great day. Rut is heavy on in7F. Bucks chasing does, 8 point chasing away a 4 point. Lone does wandering about...... Shot this yote from the ground at 30 yards on my way in. Had a doe trying to bust me for 15 minutes. Stood right in trail to the stand at 5 yards staring at me til dark . Thought I was gonna have to shoot her just to go home and pickup my yote on the way out. Have to work tomorrow and it's gonna kill me... But my hunting buddy is off so I hope he gets one. Pic of tonites yote and the 8 point that busted me same one as this trail cam pic

2017 HuntingNY Crossbow Harvest Thread
Robhuntandfish replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Not a deer but a take with the crossbow! Was walking in at 1:30 and he was trotting down a trail and I was at a 90 angle in the brush and he was coming right at me. Shot him from the ground at 30 yards and dropped him. Which I glad of cause after I shoot I think what if he is wounded and coming at me now. Lol. But I left him and brought him out after deer hunting. Had a doe at 4 yards but looking for that buck. Had an 8 point chasing a 4 pointer and he busted me when I went to shoot. Saw 3 bucks and 4 does today . Great day in the woods.- 18 replies

Good luck. You will find him in the morning!

Warning......if your not able to hunt today DO NOT READ THIS. In 7F bucks chasing does, bucks chasing bucks, got busted by a nice 8 pointer, just got down from stand for a quick drink of water and stretch my legs. Crazy damn day. Snort wheezing tree rubbing 8 point buck in brush at 10:30. He was chasing away a 4 pointer. Then I rattled and grunted and he shows up half hour later out of the thickest stuff in trail. I just turned to look and he was right there and caught my movement and was gone. 5 minutes later a doe to the other side.......yeah it's been a crazy day.

"I fish because I love to, because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful and hate the environs where crowds of people are found which are invariably ugly; because of all the television commercials, cocktail parties and assorted social posturing I escape; because in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power; because I suspect that men are going along this way for the last time, and I for one don't want to waste the trip; because mercifully there are no telephones on trout waters ; because only in the woods can I find solitude without loneliness; and finally, not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant and not nearly so much fun" -- Robert Traver Same goes for hunting!

Saw 8 deer today. 2 bucks. One a spike and one good one this morning but he didn't get in range. 3 does right before dark was so hoping a buck would join them. Spent 9.5 hours in the stand today. Prob most of the day tomorrow too, but hoping for a good buck to be closer. Most deer I've even seen in this spot in 7F cause it is so brushy, usually if you see a deer it is less than 50 yards in most spots.

I'm with ya. But this is my one year that I have been after a big one. Usually I shoot a 4,5,6,7 every year. But this year I got two early does in the freezer so am after a good one. Passed on a small 8 that would have been close to my biggest buck ever. But really trying to hold out as have never gotten a wall hanger. Nice buck and congrats on a good hunting season. And I will prob end up with that 5 point like always and be very happy to get him!

Didn't want to get put of stand. Saw a doe at 10 then a good buck right behind her trail 10 min later. Then another doe 20 minutes later. But after 5 hours and a 20 minute bit of snow have to get warmed up for an hour

When I got to my spot this morn, the national anthem came on like it was the opener for the world series! It's gotta be today!

Welcome along! Hope to hear some good hunting stories bout you and Dad. My dad for sure also got me into the outdoors. He could catch trout in a rain gutter!

I am so around a big buck. One of the properties I hunt has a big nine and a nice 8 and guess what the other property I hunt a lot has a big 9 and a nice 8! Keep getting trail cam pics of them even in daylight some. I think tonite one of the nice bucks was in the field but it got dark and some does came thru and they all were gone. Had does right under the stand just about and thought they might be my decoys Can't wait til tomorrow. Perfect wind for my hottest stand in the rut.

At the very least get a crossbow. Missing out on the best time of year. Bowhunting is so great. It's warmer, more action and the crossbow season is dead right in the rut. You'll love it.

Just saw on the news a fellow hunter is lost in the Clayton area. 60 years old they have been looking since yesterday. Folks always tell us to be careful but it could be any of us. There is some inherent danger in hunting but still will take my chances in the woods far above the city street. Hopefully they find this fellow. He's prob a lot like us......

Pouring here still. It's supposed to stop later. Gonna put boat in storage this morn. Then hunt the pm. Into my scrapetree spot tomorrow all day. North wind will be perfect and no rain. Ought to be good. Freshen up the scrape, get settled and choot em!
