  1. 7F , scrapes, deer coming into rattling horns, bucks chasing and grunting and have some trees at scrapes with lots of broken limbs.
  2. The big boy I was after last year is back this year. First pic of him showed up , at night of course - thus the name we gave him - "Dark Knight" First pic was from last year and the other was just a few days ago. Hope he makes a daylight appearance. Gonna try some rattling to get him up and aggitated. But he is even bigger this year!
  3. I got another 7F and a 7J today. Already filled two tags with does but like to have a couple extra . Always have one guy that goes with us opening day of gun without a doe tag or one of their sons. So usually sign one over to one of the boys to use. And if I don't fill a buck tag it is possible a late season doe might fall too.
  4. Def don't think it's too late. I've always thought lockdown was over done as an issue. One of my best hunting days is Nov 6th. Shot a few deer on that day for some reason. If it's cold and your near trails and food source it's usually still good. I usually see lots of new rubs the week before gun season. My favorite time of the year is Nov 3-6 every year. And with all the warm weather this year maybe that gets pushed back too. There should still be some rut activity even if it's not the peak your still right close to it.
  5. I'm in your same boat with the rain. Pouring rain and hunting in glasses sucks big time. So bailing on tonite. You def want to be in after that corn cut. That might be a winner. Good luck.
  6. Will def be out. Took off M,T,W too. Got xbow last year and scored with it on second day. So a buddy of mine used it the rest of season. He got his own this year. I am hoping to down a big un with it this year.
  7. Ok , I'm in the stand. We got our 800 lbs of deer feed out, the camera crew is setup, we just got done doing live shots on the way in with pretty gals in tight camo that have never hunted anything that wasn't in the mall in their life. We have passed on a bunch of cull 5 year old 10 and 12 pointers . Waiting for a decent mature buck to come in. While we wait would like to thank my sponsors........Bradley's Tire Rotation Center-"where you wait and we rotate", aunt Betty's diner - where every slice of pie comes Al a mode for the month of November (thats with ice cream) and lastly uncle Edward buck lure....which is just my uncle Ed who gave me a jar of pee and I was afraid to ask why...... Lol .....ok it's a little slow in the stand today! Haha
  8. Didn't hear or see a thing this am. Sat in spot where I'm getting pics of the deer we named Dark Knight last year and have new pics this year. Perfect wind for it, which don't always happen. Just the deer weren't there today. Tried rattling and nothing. Was thinking today was gonnna be good after such a busy buck day yesterday. But.....I did get 2 leftover doe tags for 7f and 7j! This pm pending rain.
  9. Venison jalapeño sausage with cheesy grits and eggs. One of my favorites. (And yes turkeyfeathers I included the Franks this time)
  10. Buck activity in 7f is damn busy. Rattled one up this morn. Saw one chasing and grunting hot on doe tonite. Too thick to shoot but a nice buck. Can't wait til morning. Right wind for right spot i am hoping.
  11. Haven't been in this stand yet. On the Fringe of where I know a big one roams. Gonna rattle once later. It sure worked this morn. That 7 point was thrashing that tree and looking around. So cool. Good luck folks
  12. I def will be in tonite. Got pics on cam of a good one. Will be in that spot tomorrow as the wind looks better for it, but will be out on in a stand tonite. Deer are moving and getting rutty. Esp after rattling one in this morn. Finaly cool weather
  13. Had a great morn! Passed on this 7 or 8 in this pic. Rattled him in. Rattled once and 5 minutes later see a small tree flipping all over and not from wind. Can't see deer in brush but knew it was a buck raking branches. He came out about 80 yards Down the trail. I grunted but he went the other way. Tried rattling agian and 20 min later he came out on other side of trail. Grunted a couple of times and he came right at me down this trail . Thought he was a 5 point , good size body but as he got closer I think he was a 7. Passed this am as got 2 slicks in the freezer . Pulled cams and got great news . The big 8 I was hunting last year is still around!!!! Can't download this year's pic yet til get to computer but here is last year's and pic of buck I passed this morn next to bushes. Great morn and they are def getting rutty!!
  14. I hunt a lot of field edges and that last 20 minutes of light always seem to have some action. And I seem to see a lot of deer around 9 am for some reason.
  15. It sure seems that we never had to worry about that 5 years ago. But yeah nowadays is a different story. One spot i hunt I get more yotes on camera than deer.
  16. Have always said.....if he is dead now he will be dead in the morning too. It's certainly cool enough overnight to wait. Best of luck. Looking forward to hero pics in the morning.
  17. I shoot prob 20 rounds per gun. Usually go to be sure they are sighted in and then find myself just shooting a whole box while I am there. I actually have started shooting less with the bow. Seems like I actually get in my own head when I shoot too much with it. But it is dialed in and I try to shoot 3 shots twice a week in the fall. One each at 20,30,40. With a new gun usually shoot about 60 shells as I like to try different ammo to see what is best and get used to the trigger.
  18. i would try to find out where they roosted the night before and plan for a morning hunt. Do a crow call or hoot owl and maybe you can find them roosted for the am hunt
  19. it is a sales tactic some stores use for sure. IE JC Pennys for years everything was on sale from 20-60% off. They would put the "real price" number on there to make you think your getting a deal when really it was never that price.
  20. not stupidity -- at least I hope not -- cause we have all been there. Thats part of the hunting is learning every year to be successful. And then there are still new things thrown in there every year that are out of your control. To me the best part of hunting is the puzzle.
  21. i did the exact same thing. risking your life out there today !
  22. My pet peeve for hunting is fogged glasses!! whats your #1 pet peeve in hunting - Go!
  23. thats very assuming ....... i love bow hunting. Actually i am not big on gun hunting at all. Simply stated that the crossbow is more efficient which is a definite. I dont feel threatened at all. I enjoy both during hunting season. But it is def easy to hold a crossbow to assure a good shot than it is to hold draw on a deer or get drawn at the right time. Dont be sorry for me, But it would be hard to take the bow when the crossbow is that much more efficient is all.
