  1. Bout the same thing here. I live 6 minutes from where I hunt and saw 5 deer and a guy netting a walleye on the way home. Glad someone had some luck.
  2. Both of them were gifts actually. But I think one came from a gift shop in old forge.
  3. Always good to hear someone getting into hunting. Best of luck.
  4. Doesn't this look like a good place for a deer hunt.....nope we both were wrong. Didn't see a thing tonite.
  5. Saw over 100 deer in bow season. Have seen 3 in gun so far. Nothing last night , nothing this morning. I miss bow season......
  6. My next purchase is a 11-87 Remington 12 semi slug gun. Been eyeing them for a bit now. My uncle worked at Remington for years. And this would be my first one.
  7. This is the hunt and fish gear room! But whole house is a man cave! Mounted fish are in the living room with a mouthy dog on the furniture. Lol
  8. Knocking on the bedroom door tonite. Only been to this stand once ris year. Right on the edge of bedding area. If it happens it will be quick and close. Or since the sun is out and it's so nice and for lunch I had a turkey sandwich and a piece of pumpkin pie my eyes will slam shut.
  9. What sammich you got......can I have some......
  10. Saw a nice pheasant go right by my stand. But didn't think the 30-06 was enough gun. Lol. Don't see those very often so that was neat. My buddy's son saw a doe but couldn't get a shot. Back out this pm for sure . Nice day here in 7F
  11. So romantic TF. You really have a way of setting a mood. Lol
  12. Lewis county has a lot of northern tier areas avail ( just north of Rome) . Deer hunting is ok there and they have a decent bear population too. But you are right along the edge of northern and southern tier. I live about 20 minutes from Rome. Also if you like to fish, lake Delta is loaded with some serious smallmouth and Oneida lake is of course a great walleye spot and also bass and perch. Hunting around is like anywhere else just up to finding the right areas. Just an FYI Trenton fish and game club is only about 15 minutes from griffiss and it's a nice club and they have like 400 acres of hunting. I have a buddy that is in the air national guard and he's a member there . Best of luck in cny. Prob won't see deer numbers near Rome anything like PA but still should be able to find some good areas.
  13. Yup will be out. With a buddy and his son. His son just took his marine test last weekend and looks to be gone in August next year after grad. So gonna be his shot to get out prob for a couple years. So gonna hope he gets one. Prob out til 10. Then dinner at 1 at the girlfriends then dinner again at 5:30 at my Moms. Then fall into a food coma. Then rinse and repeat for the morning. Happy Thanksgiving to all and good luck to all going hunting.
  14. there was an Amish family not far from here - they were busted for having 7 deer hanging and it wasnt even season
  15. can you put your husband online........lol .......sorry too soon...... Women love the line........"is there a man there that i can speak to?" sounds like a shit show for sure. Good luck. hope that gets sorted out for you. Forget about it and have a great Thanksgiving
  16. The difference might be as you said. When you bought it the land was logged and had a lot of thick stuff. In 17 years maybe it needs to be logged again to allow that undergrowth to thrive again which is cover, safety and security for deer as well as a food source
  17. be careful with the rat poison. My buddy lost a dog from it. Not because he ate the poison directly but because the dog caught a mouse that ate the poisonn
  18. awesome - thanks - gonna be one to try this winter after season !
  19. anyway you could post this recipe on the cooking/recipe threads? looks great
  20. even the bear take from the adirondacks has now been surpassed by the southern tier. I know guys that just gave up going there although they love the experience its tough to go a week and never see a deer. Or to go partridge hunting and see two in a weekend. The dacks could be so much more for hunters. I would love to see the snowshoe hares come back - what a great trip that would be after deer season.
  21. I love the big woods of the Adirondack park. But the deer numbers suck. It would be great to have the best of both worlds and have such a large and accessable state forest - one of the largest in the country- with some decent deer numbers. Out west in those vast wilderness areas there seems to be so much more wildlife. Deer, whitetails and muleys, elk, and even small game. Remember the days of seeing snowshoe rabbits....... Whats the fix ? is there a fix, does there need to be a fix? I know some guys love the big woods and the challenge it brings but some deer to be seen would be great. Look at the big woods in like Saskatchewan or Alberta and the huge whitetails up there. ......What you think ? Although the adirondacks are beautiful, it just seems like the potential for something even better is there. The idea i have always had is that a lot of that old growth forest needs to go. Log it out, controlled burn, then let the regrowth happen and let the wildlife flourish. The old forest and those worthless govt planted pines from years ago just arent very good for wildlife. Just some thoughts. What do you think ?
  22. Hate to tell you but Carl is untouchable. He is where the show will end and be the new leader.
  23. Dunno what ypur age is but assume your an older fellow. You walked up a big hill and hunted and hiked for 6 hours....I'd say you did more than most people a lot younger have done today or will do tomorrow.
  24. Cubed venison steak sandwich on a jalapeño and cheddar bagel with tater salad.
