I'd never even walk into a public place like store or gas station with hunting clothes on, too afraid of the scents getting on my clothes. I keep all my hunting stuff in bins at my parents house. I go from their house to woods (dark - dark) and back home. Honestly, I dont even get gas before fishing or eat anything with my hands before fishing, because I am worried about getting gas or food smells on my fingers and then touching the line, bait, etc.

Full fask mask with the like the bug screen? I have never tried one of those, figured it would be hard to shoot through a scope with one of them. I plan on using the one I am wearing in the pic, but if its really hot out, might have to do makeup?

Question for the early season bow hunters out there: When the weather is warm do you prefer to wear a camo facemask or camo makeup, and why? I will be hunting from the ground with my crossbow starting on opening day (9/16) in CT. I expect it to be pretty warm. During the NY gun, it is always cold enough to cover my face with a dickie (see pic with deer). In warmer weather, I have worn a facemask (see pic with foxes) and felt comfortable. However, I have also tried the makeup and it worked well too (i think). Thanks in advance.

I wonder why they are so freaked out? I have never gotten a pic of a deer so scared like that.

My crossbow is a recurve crossbow (excalibur), therefore no rules apply. I can hunt on people's land without permission.

Maybe in NY, but not in CT: Does the 500 foot rule apply to bowhunting? No. The safety buffer of 500 feet only applies to hunting with firearms or carrying of a loaded firearm when a reasonable person would conclude that the individual was engaged in hunting.

I know of 2 people who shoot custom bows over 100lbs, crazy. The one guy shot a mulie at 103 yards, and a giant Elk at 70 yards.

In NY during gun season, I usually get cold and bored by like 11am. Typically from 11am -2pm, I still hunt at a snail pace. Literally 2 steps, then stop/look/listen. Then repeat. I have snuck up on many bedded deer like (more does than bucks), but have shot a couple of bucks like this. In PA, I spotted a buck about 200 yards away, I snuck within 40 with my crossbow and then realized it was a spike (illegal in PA). I thought he had more points. I dont know if I was imagining things or the high grassy stuff made it look like more. Pretty disappointing. My only Mule Deer buck was a bedded buck (with a couple of other bucks). Got within 500 yards and they got up and ran over the next hill. Then got within 330 yards and shot him, he ran 110 yards and I finished him off at 440.

Nothing like making a spot & stalk on a bedded buck.

Yea man, I hear you. For years I played in the Sunday morning league in Mahopac and weeknight leagues in Kent, Patterson, and Tarrytown. I once dislocated my finger sliding into home in a playoff softball game once. Jammed it into the catchers cleat. The two bones closest to the fingernail slid on top of the bone cloest to the hand. I dont know how they didnt go through the skin. The skin was so white because it was so stretched. At the ER they had 1 guy hold my shoulder in place while the other doctor pulled my finger out away from me and down to drop it into place. Unfortunately, due to my shoulder I no longer play softball. I played last year in Tarrytown league under the TZ bridge, but I couldnt throw and hit like I used to. I couldnt deal with being an "average joe" out there, so I probably won't ever play again.

Well said. I played sports my whole life. I am competitive in everything I do. Now that there aren't many sports left to play besides golf, softball, basketball, etc, I really have grown to enjoy hunting and fishing more than ever. To me, it is me vs. the species I am targeting (Lake Trout, Deer, etc.). Waking up at 4am, sitting outside on the ground from dark - dark in my scent free clothes, hoping I have a tricked a deer into walking by me close enough to get a shot. It's a rush and nothing like it. Just like in sports, I follow the laws/rules. I never corked by bat in baseball, I never took steroids. In hunting I don't illegally bait. However, I do take advantage of better technology. In golf, I have custom clubs that are legal. In hunting, I use top of the lines guns, scopes, xbows, etc.

I didn't get that whiff, but I do agree there is nothing like first morning with the smell of fall. Smells like hunting and football weather.

+1. I always negotiate before booking hunts, but when it is a hunt where other hunters are present, I don't talk about anything. If they ask me, I say I paid full price.

8 out 10 ain't bad. I think didn't think Cappadonna was technically part of Wu Tang?
