  1. Wrong! Ill be hunting 9/16-12/31 in CT with my xbow. Also going to PA in October. Looks like NYS just lost my $ to other states. I get more buck tags this way anyway. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  2. I always wear my backtag because it looks cool. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  3. Too bad you dont live closer to CT. I got approved to use my xbow during CT archery season (9/16-12/31) due to a permanent disability. Got 3 buck tags, 3 doe tags.
  4. I want the guy who baited the deer to be fined and lose his license! CHEATER!
  5. When I was on a wolf hunt in Alberta several years ago, the guide told me that he lost a few friends in the bush to black bears over the years. He said the local guys who lives in bush are much more afraid of black bears than Grizzlies and that the black bears were much more aggresive.
  6. I feel comfortable to 40 yards with my xbow, maybe 50 if the deer was broadside, no wind, no spooked, etc. My xbow is 200lb, the max allowed in NY. When hunting with an Xbow, I have never shot at a deer yet. I hunted in PA and 2 seasons in NY. In PA, I had does and illegal bucks (AR restrictions) within range. In NY, I had does in range and 1 spike. The spike was blocked by some brush so I didnt take the shot. I kill a buck almost ever single year in NY with my shotgun, the xbow is much more of a challenge, and I enjoy that and respect bowhunters because of the challenge. I only hunt with my xbow from the ground (no blinds).
  7. Check out youtube there are tons of long shot kills with compounds on video. Let alone all the long shots with compound at water bottle, beer cans, etc. Anybody can hit a beer can at 100 yards with a compound or an xbow with enough practice and trying.
  8. I havent watched the video, but he must know where he will hit at 100 yards and aimed accordingly. It wouldn't take anybody more than a week to become proficient at a 100 yards with compound. Couldn't you just have your 4 pins are 70, 80, 90, 100?
  9. Never heard that story before, but I do see it listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America crazy...
  10. 100 yards with a crossbow is still a big drop, probably 50+ inches. Practice makes perfect.
  11. Hopefully. So far we only talked about my crossbow. If i do like what I see, when I have them sign the consent form is when I can bring up gun hunting. Because they have 10+ acres, I could use a rifle or shotgun. The way I read the rules, I am allowed 2 either sex deer and 2 anterless deer with my archey license and 1 either sex deer and 1 anterless deer with a firearms license. 3 buck tags would be nice. It's weird how in CT, you dont get actual tags, you can print as many as you want, they just put the trust in you, to obey the laws depending on your hunting zone. Harvest tag attached. 12. I have never been up there yet. I found an ad on craigslist to rent their house for some crazy amount. When I saw 12 acres, I figured I'd offer up $ to hunt the land and not use the house. If things don't look good when I get there, I won't pay. This is quote from her email to me: "Sounds great! We'd love to have you come visit. My husband George HATES deer as we have extensive gardens and they are destroying them. We see deer every single day, often entire families sleeping in the brush on the edge of the property. When would you like to come out to see it?"
  13. Belo - Shooting long distances with a compound is popular around here. However, out west it is very common for guys to shoot antelope, mule deer, and elk at distances of 50-100+yards. On a side note, anybody get Outdoor Life Magazine? The Deer of the year, a 200" deer was shot in Illinois, I believe.....it was shot with a crossbow!
  14. While I was banned from this site, I might have finally found a private piece of land in CT. Going to look this Saturday the 13th. Some multi-million dollar house on 12 acres. They are having problems with the deer eating all their plants and shrubs. They "hate deer". I told them I would give them $500 for access for the rest of 2013 if I go up there and see a good amount of deer sign, etc. I'm pumped! Here's a map of the area I am going to see on Saturday. Spot "A" is the big 10,000 sq. ft house, tennis court, swimming pool, basketball court, housekeepers cottage, etc. I assume their property comes down towards the bottom of the picture. I see a lot of farmland nearby, hopefully this little section of woods is where the deer bed. Then I can catch them coming to/from the fields, where I assume they eat. ANY SUGGESTIONS when checking out land like this for the first time? Thanks in advance. Also, FYI -- This piece of land is not in zones 11 or 12 where baiting is legal in CT.
  15. I always hope to see one. But they are very rare down here. However, westchester and putnam both have seasons. Crazy. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  16. It's from the movie, 8mile. I'm not from Detroit. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  17. Hold up. 1 more: ********************************** Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  18. Agreed. Honestly, I just wanted a better chance at a big bobcat. I was prepared to come home empty handed if need be. I turned down opportunities at smaller cats while in Minnesota. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  19. Why is Geno going to Kansas for a whitetail when they have them here? For the experience and chance to hunt to somewhere else and a better chance at a bigger buck probably. How many 42lb bobcats come out of NY? Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  20. I wanted to hunt in another part of the country. Instead of doing a bobcat hunt with dogs in Maine, I chose Minnesota. $1600 is very reasonable. Most Maine guys are over $2,000 with much lower success rates. Nothern Minnesota was an awesome time, a great experience. Just as much fun as my recent trip to Aruba. I could have went to the beach in NY too right? It's all about seeing other places for me. Also, I wanted to complete the North American cat slam before I get married. Just the Lynx left, so I'm going to British Columbia in December so I can hopefully shoot one. Most provinces of Canada only allow trapping. B.C. you must hunt with a guide. 21. For $5K, it better be damn close to 100% opportunity at something decent. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  22. If you could honestly hunt outside of New York, you would have. It's plain and simple. You prefer hunting whitetails only, I prefer variety. You're jealous of me. I'm younger than you, better looking than you, I have more $ than you, My girlfriend is better looking than any girl you have ever been with, I have a better life than you. Your a sad, jealous man. I'm going to bed, I actually have to work tomorrow. Goodnight 12 tooth. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
  23. Good thing I'm not a firemen. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
