CT made the laws and I qualified. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

Yea that's nothing new. They are bad in putnam county too. Usually pull 7-10 off a day hunting on a warm day. I never used any spray. Just check my clothes piece by piece as I take them off, then have my girlfriend check my body before showering. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

I'm used to only hunting whitetails in NY during the gun season. This year I will be hunting starting 9/16 in CT with the xbow. What are some early season hunting tips? I assume at this time bucks are still in bachelor groups? If I can get bucks on the trail camera in July and August, should I be hunting that area come September? Thanks in advance.

Looking for land access in CT - $
BizCT replied to BizCT's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
Yesterday I went to look at the land.... Cons: Of the 12 acres, only 7 is wooded and huntable. The neighboring property is owned by some anti-hunting lady. Pros: The wooded area where I can hunt is pretty much the only wooded area surrounded by neighbors corn and other farm fields. The spot that looked best to me is almost like creek bottom, but not water running, just swampy stuff. (see pic from the bottom, where I set my trail cam). I saw tons of sign and kicked up 2 bucks that were bedded down. It was 11:00am. Both bucks looked like 4's or 6's in velvet. The landowner said "oh those are small bucks, the ones I usually see have much bigger antlers". The owners were cool and said I can come and go as I please, just need to text them my plans. They are allowing me to use a shotgun there in addition to my crossbow, so I now will have 6 tags. 3 either sex, 3 antlerless. I am only interested in shooting bucks though. They allowed me to put up a trail camera. All in all, it was pretty successful so I paid the $500 cash and I'm pumped to start hunting 9/16 on a totally new piece of land. The bow season is 9/16 - 12/31, gun season is 11/20-12/10. Only negative is no sunday hunting in CT. It will be nice to hunt in warm weather for a change. I will head back up there a few more times before the season to check the cam and scout around. -

It's been 4+ years, some days are worse than others. The pic is from last week after a round of golf, shot 85. It doesn't always look that bad. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

No thanks. I can raise it above my head. It's hammering above my head, etc that inflame it. I'm not interested in surgery with ligaments from a donor or my leg. I've met with many orthopaedics. They were all split on which way to go. My friends cousin is the orthopedic surgeon for an NHL team. I ended up going with him. He's worked on tons of separated shoulders....anyway, back to topic. Activities below my shoulder line don't bother me. Golf, rowing a boat, dragging things etc. I'd rather row 3 miles than hold a phone up to my ear for 15minutes. I'm not a carpenter or painter, I don't work above my head with my hands, so elected not to have surgery and I can do everything I want to do. Because its permanently separated, ill never get arthritis. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

Im glad you are all concerned. I drag with my left arm, my dad has the other rack. I also hunt dep lands, no atvs allowed. Sometimes its a 1-2 mile drag out. Much easier when snow is on the ground. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

I've never dragged a deer out with anything but hands and a rope. Never owned an atv. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

So you think people shoot mule deer at 15-20 yards? No tree stands out there. All spot n stalk out there with the bow. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

Good thing u live in NY and not out west. You be eating tag soup every year if you didn't shoot past 30yds. 30 yds isn't even top pin for most western bow hunters. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

Thats not a stock xbow. Id be curious of the specs, probably illegal to use in most if not all states. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

Is that PSE crossbow legal for hunting in any state in the U.S.?
-
Point is that I am not impressed with the crossbow shot whatsoever. Nor would I be impressed if anybody posted a video of shooting a paper plate at 100 yards with a compound. Shooting (no matter what weapon) is just practice. I would bet that 100 out of 100 guys on this site who shoot compounds can hit a paper plate at 100 yards at least once given say 4 hours of trying. If not, that's sad.
-
by the way, whats the specs on that PSE xbow? I bet its not even legal in most states anyway.

FACT: Compounds are more accurate than Crossbows. The compound bow is more accurate due to the fact of a consistent anchor point. String loops have become a must for extreme accuracy. The arrow sits between the string loop knots and the release is held on the string loop in the same place every time making it very accurate. The crossbow has to be drawn and locked into a latch where the consistent string position can be compromised, allowing for the arrow to hit the left or to the right of the target. This is why Competitive Compound Bow Shooters score higher than Cross Bow Shooters in the same tournament.
-
Yea, its a weird law. That's how it is here in Putnam County too.
-
Why does hours and hours of practice equate to truly appreciating a deer more? I practice at a range with my rifles 1-2 times per year, so 2 hours or less of practice each year with them. If I practiced more, it wouldn't make me appreciate the game I kill any more than I already do. As long as I feel confident that I can make the shot, that's all that matters to me.

I'm talking about target practice not hunting. Regarding the compound, it would take you more than a week to hit a paper plate at 100 yards? Come on, after 10-15 attempts you will know where to aim and you will hit it. Regarding the rifle, once the gun is sighted in correctly, anybody who doesn't flinch can be proficient at 100 yards. You can take any joe schmo off the streets who never shot a gun a before and get them to hit a paper plate at a 100 yards with a sighted in gun, as long as they don't flinch.
