  3. going out today. Brr its going to be cold but time is running out and i would have to shoot a lot of squirrels to make up for a deer. hope your mom gets better soon Turkey feathers.
  4. i dont believe CVA makes a percussion type muzzle loader. check that i guess they are out there
  5. get your hands on a 5/32 drill bit. i use them to clean out the flash hole in my breech plug. I shoot a Thompson so i don't know if the flash hole on your cva will be the same size but its the best way i have found to clean it out. quite a bit of gunk builds up from the primers. I would suggest the blackhorn for the simple reason that it doesn't require cleaning after every shot. cleaning is a little more tedious but its just like cleaning any other gun {not using Windex and water}. the pressure created by blackhorn is very close to the 777 powder . So other than cleaning after every shot there is really no appreciable gains in speed. You could however customize a load that helps your gun shoot tighter groups. you will need a powder scale to achieve that goal.
  6. Yup it got a blue jay. What kills bluejays? Sent from my XT1028 using Tapatalk

  11. Who ever told that guy we had big deer in NY wasn't lying to him, they grow like that in western NY too.I saw one once like that once in Erie county way to many points to count he looked like a walking root ball. Like I said, saw it. I would have to remember guess but he was about 15 to twenty yards. He appeared behind me from the red brush over my left shoulder. Ten steps later he stopped behind the biggest oak tree in the world, big thick knarly branches all the way to the ground. All I saw nose and rear end, As he stood there and contemplated life for what seemed an eternity, my arm was getting tired, i drew back waiting for him to step out from behind the tree. It never happened. The next step he took was directly to his left and he walked away. A couple more steps and I would have given him a heart stopper. Its nice to see some proof of what we have in NY. that dude got it done.
  12. practice your shot . Because in the end thats where the chips fall. its all on you to get it done. If you want to be the great white hunter.. Spend the money on boots.
  13. It's time to play. 25 degrees 16 mph winds fresh powder. Muzzleloader season. Life is great. Sent from my XT1028 using Tapatalk
  14. it sucked for me too i had shoulder surgery just before bow season so no bow hunting. i got out with cross bow a couple times.but without a crank that was not happening either, its been a ground season for me except for the ladder stand.
  15. if your having venison with your "tag soup'. then its a chowder. yeah tag soup is no venison in the freezer. stop trying to be something your not. so every season you dont fill all your tags its tag soup time. I would have to disagree.besides why would you eat tag soup if you have meat. Strange.
  16. this is the bullet porn thread. You are supposed to show a picture of the bullet.
  17. it needs a fire.I was just looking because usually you cant see twenty yards through that stuff, it rarely ever has snow. the field is behind me
  18. i would prefer to drop every ounce of a ton of energy into the deer. this round at the muzzle is putting out 2500 foot pounds of energy into a deer . its a Barnes spitfire mz 250 grains
  19. Come here deer. storms coming. It's starting to snow. Time to load up. Sent from my XT1028 using Tapatalk

  23. Happy muzzleloader season. getting ready to go out and see whats walking. I weighed some fresh loads last night and dry swabbed the barrel. look out deer it might be the day for you.
  24. They do the same thing at my moms house. She lives on an limited access road. they come from the fields through the swamp and bed down in the pines near the road in the front yard. And if not they go through the yard into the apples and hang out by the main road... super smart critters. Oh look there they are in the neighbors yard at 10 am just snacking away.

It has to be that reports are up, I know we dont represent every hunter in the state but there are some good hunters here and the opinion seems to be on this forum that kills are down. I would believe that we do represent well here , it does seem that a lot of people got deer this year. I know im in for three deer, granted its not the seven I got last year but hey Its not over yet.I dont go back to work until January 2nd.
