I haven't read the other comments. Last night, I decided to mix it up a little by sitting right against a tree in full blaze orange, just inside of a 100 acres of thicket- woods. Deer started showing up about 3:38 pm. first with doe fawns crossing in front of me then after 4 during a snow shower, 2 nice doe passed, maybe 60 yd. History in this spot proves that deer moving this early should make for a good nights sit. It proved right. About 4:55 pm., a nice, maybe 170 lb., 2 1/2 year old 8 pt. came to bow range on me following, the earlier doe fawn scent. I passed on it, as it was after sunset and I'm looking for at least a 3 1/2+ year old. I'd say the second breeding season is near here. The rules have change, but I throw the cards on the table.

tractor opinions please
landtracdeerhunter replied to yukonhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I've rebuilt 27 Ford N tractors since 92, mostly 50 - 52, 8N as they have a better resale value. Side mount distributors and a little better draft control make them worth a little more. ( not for me) Nowadays, people won't pay the kind of money one has to get out of a rebuild, even though their work on a gallon an hour. I have a 42 Ford 2N, still with the original magneto. Been in the family, since 48. -
tractor opinions please

Nice find. Two thousand is a nice buy, provided the unit up to snuff. The Ford 9N tractor production was from 1939 to 1947. Their were new ones available from dealers in 48 when the Ford 8N came out. The 9N has one brake pedal on each side of the transmission case to identify. -
Pigs of that size were selling for $60 at Gentners Auction in Springville in the summer.

I've won apples, potatoes, and even onions once, but never a live animal. That must have been some raffle!

I think most do it, but it is illegal to put a deer down in the dark.
-
More details? On the edge of my seat!
-
But people in the big cities are so use to hearing gunfire in the dark.
-
So the execution shot fired illegally into the deer, since it was dark.

Screw it, I'm taking the rest of the week off

The nasty weather is when we shoot our best deer. Cold wet and windy, Ideal conditions to harvest a nice buck. -
Posted this on another thread, but I'd would bet that 60% of "All" deer shot is during illegal light times. Most hunters I talk to don't even know when sunrise, sunset time are, let alone care.

I do fully agree with most of your above post, and one thing in life that I'll never ever stop doing, is keep an open mind. To argue is worthless in life. To work together to gain knowledge- priceless. Good luck on the rest of your season!

Yes to add to this, I scoped a 150"+ , Saturday at 4:50pm., 62 degrees. The winds shifted from the sw to the ne for a short time. He came right in from the north behind me. Heard a stick crack, viewed rack coming through the brush as I cycled my gun around. Lined up in the scope, dead on, breast shot only. for 45 seconds, viewing this statue in the woods. He lived for another day. Second guessing myself, hell no.

My point, pure and simple. If you have doe and fawn movement during the day, the bucks, yes mature also, are going to be on there feet, especially if any are close to cycle. Your not talking to some will be deer hunter here. I've lived and breathed deer for a long time. I seen s... that most hunters will never see in a lifetime. I like to educate people, if their willing to learn!

I believe that 60% of the deer harvested in this state are harvested before of after defined legal light conditions. That number, most likely is higher. I talk with alot of deer hunters and most don't even know when sunrise and sunset times are, and further more even care.

How long will it take for the deer to get back to "normal"

Ah, the million dollar question. Take a guess, anyone? -
Nice pics Doc and thanks for sharing. It surprises me that this processor let you take pics. I've tried asking at 2 locations, and the response was, No Pics Please! I believe the response was more about the deer, than the establishment itself.

Just got in from a 10 - 2 sit. Had a nice doe and 2 fawns move right through into the uncut corn. Nothing nocturnal about that, but one does have to be there to see it.
-
Yeh, and if it's a 150" buck, how do you think it would go?

Regular season Opening weekend. How'd you do?

Should of left it in the church. Let Alice take care of her own garbage, LOL............ Four part harmony...... and feel ' in. -
OK, so who would shoot a 150" buck at 30 yards, 2 minutes after evening legal light.?
-
Nice. A BIG congrats to your dad!

At 6:31, 9 rounds to to the west. Either someone has 2 guns, or their not obeying the NY. S.A.F.E. act. Counted 40 rounds by 7:08. Not bad for this area.

Yeah, good luck all. Be safe. May your deer come at light, and your bullets group tight. One more early bow sit, winds are still a blowing.
