  1. Apples and nuts, what the deer are use to.
  2. It's been a windy one indeed. I hunted right through the windy days. A record number of ground hunts, logged in this year. With safety as my number one concern, I would have miss some great encounters not being there. The risks run higher wind hunting, but the rewards far outweigh, if used wisely. Be safe and enjoy the rest of your season!
  3. A tom and 2 jakes have set up shop here for about the last 4 weeks. The hens and what few poults we had left 5 weeks or better. I' ve been viewing these birds right into last Friday. This has never been witnessed on this farm for the last 14 years or better. The nut crop is exceptional this year along with 100 acres of uncombined corn still in the field near the woods. Is is normal to see these birds going together this time of year?
  4. Bean counters are now running the organization, LOL
  5. I don't own any guns, but I borrow an 870 12 ga. riffled barrel, Leupold scope, shooting a Brenneke Black Magic 3" magnum slug at 1136 ft/sec; 1724 ft. lbs.; + 1.6. I don't settle for "Good Enough.".
  6. Glad you posted a followup OP. Good Luck, rest of the season.
  7. Not so much in my area, but on our other farm across the hollows, all hell breaks loose. It starts at crack of dawn and runs until the enemy surrenders. I believe they knock their telecommunications out, then their runways are bombed, LOL.
  8. The Bear 582 is a nice knife. The only thing that turns me off is the India stag bone. Not a true 100% American knife. Many are stated American, but most aren't 100% today.
  9. Congrats Elmo. My oldest was born at 5:56.
  10. Happy Birthday fellas. May deer fall your way; and your guns be prime for Saturday!
  11. Shipping is a killer, something like $20 bucks a tire. I install my own as I been doing it on tractors and combines for 30 years. If I can handle a a 30.5L x 32, I certainly can install a 16" car tire, LOL.
  12. I've sat on the ground, away from good size trees more this season, than any other season just for this reason. I had a " near" widow maker teach me years ago, to respect the wind
  13. This is a very dangerous thing to try. Way to many mishaps already happen with tractors. Don't be a statistic.
  14. Should of had a V-8, LOL. Rain and wind since noon. I'm heading out now. An 8" tree got torn up 100' from the house last night. Rub a little salt in my wounds.
  15. This deer should have been found, by the shot description of the OP. By now, use your nose downwind.
  16. Anybody know what happen to the deer?
  17. Thought of the same thing, but couldn't find a spot for the bridle, LOL. My wife told me where I could stick it, Joking of coarse.
  18. It took me a good deal longer to mentally prepare for shooting deer with a bow, say 5 years. At that time period and I lets some dandies walk by too. IDK, a bullet just seemed more ethical then an arrow to me. Maybe it was because I was just more comfortable with a gun then a bow. I like a good clean kill. Theirs just so much more room for error with a bow and arrow. ED- spell
