Same. I've never had deer come in where I was confident that it was because of a scent I put out. I have become a faithful user of EverCalm though. I've had deer cross my path within minutes and not spook. Have you tried their Rutting Buck or VS-1 products?

Took my time walking / scouting my way out. No new rubs or scrapes along the mile or so of trees i passed alongside the standing corn. Got to the car, changed, and then I hear the combine making it's was down the road. I almost threw the gear back on to get back in a stand. Decided against it. I've had enough of this wind for one day. -

If I was seeing deer in my area I might stay in. Nothing moving here though except the trees. I've had enough. Tapping out. -

That lasted all of 10 minutes. Winds are supposed to pick up through the morning so I found a spot on the ground.. -

Good enough for me. Breaking out the cold weather gear and packing a hot thermos. -

Today might rival 11/2 from last year! Congrats to all who scored! I was in stand by 630. Had a button buck feed under me around 8. Then busted a few doe feeding in the corn on my way out. Saw a few fresh scrapes and rubs. I'm in all day Monday, dark to dark! Had this guy cruise by the stand i hunted from this morning just before I got there.. -
Sitting at the desk in 8C, breezy and clear.

I hear ya. Still, at that price tag, wouldn't hurt to call.. from the website: "We guarantee the lifetime of each item made by Filson against failure or damage in its intended usage."

I'm with Moho on this one. Call Customer Service and see if they can do anything. They may not, but it doesn't hurt to try.

I bought an '05 Colorado in '05. It was only the first or second production year of their straight 5 cylinder motor. I know this model isn't necessarily what you're looking for, but wanted to share the experience. In the 4 years and 75k miles that I owned it, it was one headache after another. Head gasket at 35k, electrical issues, faulty gauges, and the spare tire mech broke. I literally had it back in the shop every 6 months. Maybe it was just bad luck or that it was a new engine model and I was the guinea pig.. Either way it would make me hesitant to by GM again.

When I'm hunting, I only hunt for the tags I have obviously, but this chat has helped for a better understanding. Another gem I came across is that you don't need to have bow tags to hunt with a bow in the reg season. You can harvest a bow deer in reg season and put your reg season tag on it. The bow tags only get you the extra tags for the earlier or later seasons. So when you purchase your tags, you're not purchasing the privilege to hunt with that implement. What your buying is the extra tag that can only be used in the earlier or later seasons. Light bulb moment..
-
I'm trying to prevent confusion for myself.. Not that I harvest more than 2 deer a year, so won't likely run into any issues, but still want to be on the right side of the law. I've just read through this again and think i get it. Nuances aside, you may hunt with a bow during the regular season. If you choose to use that implement during gun season, that's your choice. If you do however, you must use the regular season tag for that deer. The Box/Mz tags are only allowed during those special seasons. The DEC could do a MUCH better job of outlining this. The wording in the reg's is confusing.
-
Now I'm getting confused. If the reg says that I can use a bow, for example, to hunt the archery season and the regular season, and I have a bow tag in my pocket, then why can't i use a bow and that tag to harvest a deer during regular season?
-
It seems the question is less about the when and more about which tags to use. With that said, I have found verbiage in the reg's showing that the season dates overlap. For example, bow can be used during the bow and regular seasons (pg 21), and the ML can also be used during the regular and ML seasons (pg 20) and that an xbow may be used during late bow, regular, and ML seasons (pg 21). Specific locations may have nuances. Based on that, if I'm in the woods on the gun opener, I could be equipped with a bow, xbow, ML, or gun. And the implement that I use would correspond to the tag that I fill out.

I just checked the regs on when crossbow can be used: "May be used to hunt deer during the Northern and Southern Zone Regular Seasons," and in the next graphic "Crossbows may be used to hunt deer during the Northern and Southern Zone Muzzleloader Seasons." Bow: 10/1 - 11/20, 12/14-12/22 Crossbow: 11/7 - 12/22 Regular: 11/21 - 12/13 ML: 12/14 - 12/22

This is garbage. I took a few minutes and checked 7 or 8 online sites for rifle ammo. I have some, but not much. I have enough to get through this season but that's about it. I look for Hornady American Whitetail in .308 150gr. Anyway the last site I checked was Natchez shooters and they were the only one to have it in stock. There were some restrictions on orders though so I sent over an email to clarify if they could ship to my home or if I would need to coordinate with an FFL. Here is their response: "We apologize for the inconvenience. We are unable to ship ammo to anyone in NYS at this time." I pushed back and said what gives? "We apologize, we are currently unable to ship ammunition into your state. Due to the many laws at the local, state, and even federal level we tend to err on the side of caution." Sounds like a load of stinky bull poop to me..

Not discouraged, not yet anyway. It's only October so there's still lots of time and opportunity to get out there. If I had to guess, I would suspect overhunting last year by neighbors to the south. The whole area is pretty rural and nothing has changed regarding developments. And there is sooo much food for them, it's like an all you can eat buffet. I suspect they're either hiding in the corn, or just hitting up another food source for now. -
Thanks Jerkman.

How do you edit an edit? I just realized that in that picture, there is some unintended detail that didn't show up when I posted it from my phone.

I set them out in mid-June. Even then when the corn wasn't so tall I wasn't getting as much activity as in years past. Plenty of racoons, the occasional doe/fawn, and a buck or two. Also fewer coyotes than years past, for what that's worth. My logical mind tells me that they must just be hiding out in the corn for now. The slow cameras early on though has me a little concerned. I have a love hate relationship with my cameras. I may get giant bucks on camera that I never see when I'm out there. They give me a good idea of what's in the area, and can get me excited, but I don't rely on them for trying to build a strategy or pattern specific deer. -
Years ago I was driving a sedan. Got a few deer that I ended up hog tying across the trunk. After that, I'll take the hitch hauler every time. After the 90 minute drive up 390, the deer were usually frozen by the time I got to the processer.
