  1. I'm up and headed in. Hope I dressed warm enough. 38 this morning feels reeeally cold.
  2. Let me know when you figure it out. I've tried the synthetic antlers (bulky and noisy) and the set i have now looks like a couple of knobby disks that you grind together. They're much more compact and stay quiet until I need them, but still haven't brought me any luck. I've never had an experience where I feel confident that a deer came in because I rattled.
  3. I always wonder what the right play is this weekend... Bow? Waterfowl? Pheasant? Salmon? Too many choices... I'll probably get out for a short early bow sit tomorrow morning before the kid's soccer game.. then chase whatever pheasants are left with my father in law sunday morning.
  4. It's the newest thing.. Can't wait to see how this is classified from the DEC.
  5. To be fair, I don't go looking for them before skinning my deer. If they have them, I'm none the wiser. It's also possible that I've seen them and just not recognized it as a tick.
  6. I'm with @sodfather. I'm in Monroe County, hunt in Waterport and Hornell. I'd have to Google it just to know what they look like.
  7. @Buckmaster7600 curious about your experience with traditions? I picked up a Traditions Vortek Ultralight a few years back haven't had any issues so far. I probably have 50ish rounds through it, but don't have any other ML experience to compare it to.
  8. Craziest stuff I see on public always ties back to pheasant hunting. I always wear orange. A few years back I was walking through some thick stuff that bordered a field. I was trying to help the dog and push some birds out of the cover. I heard a shot close by and actually had the pellets raining down around me. That was too close for comfort. Not sure if I told the wife about that one... Another time I was over at Carlton HIll for the pheasant opener. You could see teams of guys and dogs lined up along the road every 20 yards or so waiting for sunrise to start pushing the field. It wasn't uncommon to hear them get into shouting matches because one person got too close or had a foot in the field 2 minutes early or whatever.. I really enjoy hunting them, but now I avoid the opening weekend. It's not worth the drama.
  9. Interesting that there was hemorrhaging into the neck. What was the shot angle?
  10. catching up on the weekend's posts... Congrats @FullDraw_9x! @BfloHunter an update this morning? I'm surprised there weren't more hero pix yesterday. I was sure with the cold front that they'd be on their feet. @Nomad, you in business with FSW? Looks like a high fence operation over there!
  11. I know this thread is live from the butcher.. do butchers handle fish? Or just meat? Either way I "butchered" that fish I caught yesterday. Steaks look great, but I need to get these pin bones out. I may end up smoking some of it..
  12. This seems to be the trend around here to. I've been eying land but am waiting, hoping the market cools down at some point. I told my wife that we probably couldn't afford our current home if we were looking to buy in this market.
  13. What kind of xbow? Any issues prior to this? Scope? I almost wonder if there is something on the rail causing it to kick as it comes off..
  14. It's always a tough choice this time of year! If you do go, eggs are the way to go.
  15. Bite was hot this morning on sandy creek. Probably saw 15 landed in the 2 hours I was out.
  16. Following from the (home) office. Watching the weather for this weekend. Sunday morning looks great with the cold front moving through. Fish are starting to run though. Decisions decisions. Now that would be a meal, grilled salmon steaks with grilled tenderloin, both harvested that day!
  17. I've only ever had one "lease". No money exchanged hands, so I'm not sure if it qualifies as an actual lease. A bunch of years back I was down in Hemlock turkey hunting in the watershed. Didn't have any luck and was driving home on 15A when I saw a few birds in a field on the side of the road. I pulled into the driveway and knocked on the door of the old farmhouse. A cranky old woman answered. She was very cranky, and very old. We got to talking and eventually she softened up. She eventually invited me in and offered me a slice of her strawberry rhubarb pie while she hand wrote up a "lease" allowing me to hunt on her property in exchange for help around the property. She even wrote it in the letter that I had to sit and have tea with her whenever I stopped by. She's long since passed away and the farm was divided up in the estate. I wish I kept that letter.
  18. Well that's a hell of an afternoon, isn't it? Way to go on an awesome hunt @The_Real_TCIII !!
  19. I'm hearing that the salmon are starting to stack up over in oak orchard. Has anyone been out there recently? Also, is anyone eating these? I know there was concern for a long time because of the elevated mercury levels, but I think the water quality has improved to the point where there is no longer concern? Between that and the fact that most of these fish are farm raised, are they ok to eat?
  20. Done for the day at 9. Had a doe come in with 2 button bucks at 8am. They were feeding in the corn right in front of me. Cool to see. This mornings sit made me realize I did a terrible job clearing shooting lanes..
  21. In stand by 630 overlooking corn. Feel naked without my evercalm. 2 red fox playing right under my stand at 645..
