  1. Like every.other species pocket will and can improve but it up to landowners.. most like to see 100 plus yards through a woods.. not very.healthy woods for anything and add to that the hi-grading of about 90 % of private lands and habitat for many species is at great risk.
  2. 30 plus years of true farming and tens of thousands of hours.. still cheaper than fixing a hydro. And been 33 years since rebuilt and still going strong
  3. Motor rebuilt pushing 80 hp reread..
  4. I only.gave price range as your original question asked what was available in older tractors as you were remodeling. Never meant what you can or cant afford, but 4wd is not a necessity you asked about loader and older.machines. as. I said earlier if you want new used I'd compare gpm on pumps and lift capacity.. I like the fact I can carry a ton of wood out in a bucket ( a cord is about 1 ton) with a 35 hp tractor. I did a lot of shopping and comparing before I went with a kioti, I still own a lawnmower b7200d kubota that is a deer retrieval machine and runs a 4 ft brush hog , my large tractor is a 58 Oliver 1800 gas that had motor rebuilt in 86. Close to 80 hp and pulls a 5 bottom plow and skids thousands of pounds of logs at a time when I need it to. It is my large.plot machine and moving 6 to 12 ft of dirt at a time saves time, one thing I am.always shot on. My property drops 900 ft over a 1/4 mile serious control is needed and constant speed shuttle shifting and gears are only way to accomplish that low 1 is crawling. But will move mountains . Spraying fields or.my.lawn also requires set speed for applications rate. Again gears are known speeds at rpm.
  5. Go with hybrid poplar, Aspen, if not needed over 10 ft hazelnut grows very fast.
  6. Go with a cereal grain fast growing and will suppress golden rod. Plow down in spring and seed clover
  7. Blue beach is same.family as hop hornbeam and it will spark a chainsaw blade, both those and locust are hottest burning wild trees I know ,also biggest pain to cut.
  8. I have smaller you can dig and have but max growth for them is 25 to 30 ft or so..
  9. If you want to debate new "used" tractors my advice would be look at kioti , more gpm on hydraulic pump a 30 hp tractor can lift a ton on loader to do that with a kubota you need to go to 50 hp, same with massy, long,John deer, Belarus, ect. You get most bang for your buck with a kioti at this time. But he said older machine so that is what I focused on a 2 to4 k used tractor would be geared vs the unreliable hydro of the day
  10. No , he was looking used, the difference between a hydro like a 9 n and a modern. Kioti, kubota, massy, long is like a spaceship to a bike. He just need live PTO which is on nearly.all tractors since the 60s. There are many options available in used that would serve his purpose at a fraction of the price of new and in fact can get a better tractor more hp, and implements then he could ever buy or afford new.. imo the debate is which older tractors fit his needs and allow room for expansion of what he would.like to do with it. As his own words state. but what is the best option for an older rig?
  11. More hp they make geared, hydro is not used on large tractors as there is no need of it. Just like mini Van's trucks, cars each is designed for a purpose. Hydro compact and sub compact are designed for homeowner ,large estate maintenance. You can try and do more with them but they have their purpose.. Home owner chainsaw vs professional. Most used tractors out there were professional farmers tools , and therefore geared, companies needed new market as farms got larger and less small farms and tractors last long time. So hit homeowners.landscapers. look it's just like a big one.. fact is they aren't. The fact that recreational property is the largest and fastest growing market was not overlooked by tractor companies.. problem.is the buyers are un familiar with tractors so hydrostatic are pushed by dealers on them . That is what this comes down to. I dont see professionals going into buy a hydro. If they need a loader they buy a bobcat for clearing stalls, ect. My cousin sells tractors for a living and sells hydrostatic to new land owners and geared to farmers. The land owners that use them for awhile and demand more from the machine come back trade up and buy geared for working .
  12. For many iron wood is hop hornbeam similar leaf but scaly brownish bark. Grows best on poor compact soils. Usually found in old pastureland
  13. As I said hydrostatic are fine for large estate and.lawn mowing using a loader. Geared on a hill have shuttle shift no luck needed with clutch and live PTO on modern gear as well as hydrostatic. If your going to buy a tractor or build a barn your better off going bigger. And bigger means gears.. for the average homeowner unfamiliar with tractors hydro will do what most want the issue arises when you want to do more , pull more , ect.. doing a plot with small equipment is nice , like guys on atvs.. problem is they are not designed for it, waste a lot of time and wear and rear on them .compact tractor though still a tractor are designed for large estate maintenance work. If you want to drive over trees and work ground they are not the best option..
  14. Its American hornbeam known blue beech ,also known as musclewood/ ironwood.
  15. Never used a headlamp or flashlight, natural light is always enough to see by for me. I'd be afraid of game spooking from any artificial source.
  16. Good luck with that,I'm just happy to see one while hunting..
  17. Very nice! Congrats!!!
  18. My 30th is next sat.. and so is my brothers and his wife 50th b day.. gonna be hurting on sunday
  19. If your cover is thick enough Raptors do not stand a chance for grouse have the advantage.
  20. Here is proof over gears over automatics, I dont see auto , racecars, drag or pulling tractors except their own special class as they couldn't compete with geared..skidded for pulling lumber are geared.. less to worry about ,cheaper repairs , lest costly maintenance.. hell I need like 11 gallons of hydraulic fluid just for my auxiliary hydraulics cant imagine changing oil in a hydro every few hundred hours....lol If you grew up baling hay making 90 degree turns with steering brakes , cutting crimping rolling, plowing acreage, combining, on a geared a hydro will never compare to a geared same size tractors. They have a place, large estate lawns, landscaping, mowing ect.. take what the dealers tell you you need ..just like the tractors they sell industrial tire on.nearly all homeowners get.industrial why they dealer says oh it's good for the lawn and work.. .. the more you use a tractor the benefit of speed control and power adjustment for torque using geared shows itself
  21. The lawn mower is sitting right there!!
  22. Means you are forced into what they want to sell.. better gas and longevity were proven with gear.. hell just the separator valve for my tractor was almost 1k..
  23. I cleared and left trees where they landed they rot very fast and OYSTER mushrooms grow readily on them
  24. Clear cutting Aspen patches that are over 20ft tall at.ground level so they resprout from roots is biggest part.as well a s feathering edges of mature hardwoods. Aspen is primarily the main food for grouse in the form of buds in winter and catkins in spring the 2 deciding hard time for food for them The dec put on a good seminar in hanging bog on it a few years ago my brother and I attended. Bonus is young Aspen is also a preferred food of deer.
