There is 2 weeks or more between this and bow.. deer return to normal activity within 8 days 14 is more than enough ,it's also why many muzzleloaders success is high as most gun hunters seem.to be done after Thanksgiving weekend as well
-
I have 2 nys legal ,so yes people do follow regs.
-
Well my stands don't have rails are not ladders and permanent stand that is best spot has 5 trunks your in middle of.. would you take that x bow in a hang on? Stand with no rail?? You apparently need a rest with your x bow.. ever still hunt with one?? Sorry bow is mush easier to carry and maneuver. Plus you can get multiple shots ! As for weeks of practice to get anchor point no way ,I just watched a guy shoot 6 arrows with 5 killshots on his 1st 6 shots ever,20 yards kisser button peep and pins force you to shoot exactly the same..
-
Those nice new ones are not nys legal.. I'm all for the limitations I have no issue with them
-
So no experiances with them at all and you know how much easier they are?? Smh ok

Draw when deer is behind a tree. Same as when you move to get into position.. holding back.. tell that to a traditional archer.. let off is so high today a minimal amount of effort is needed.. have to lift and aim a crossbow when deer is in range as well..
-
Ever try and hold a crossbow up for a minute with out a rest??? They both have disadvantages. Less likely to hit a limb vertical than crossbow limbs horizontal.. bow far easier in a treestand
-
Because it's not included in all season and bow guys get that way after years of bowhunting, so let's do a 10 year trail and allow it entire season and study crossbow hunters injuries after years of use..

Old artificial Christmas trees work wonders and last for years.. shooting holes are as easy as bending wire from the branch
-
I sight in for your average shot distance. And I use loose powder as it allows for greater accuracy. On average 50 cal start with 50 grains of powder to get you on paper at 25 yards move back to 50 and work on your left and right. Don't worry about height yet if your a little low. Once you get left right set you can increase by 5 grains which on average will raise point of impact 1 in. You find your max efficiency when you hear a loud sharp crack when fired with minimal smoke and no flame out the barrel.. some guns shoot great at 85 grain, some 90 or 95 or 100 or 105 or 110 .. every gun is different.
-
What advantage is that? You still need to scout and set stands at appropriate range for deer ,have to move to get into position.. the skills needed for crossbow are not the same as gun. Arrows deflect the same. . They make scopes for bows so that is a moot point unless your still shooting brass pins with wife or gf nail polish on tip so you can see it.. and you best be shooting fingers. Cause a release Is exactly the same as a trigger..

That argument says crossbows should replace compounds .. unless your being a hypocrite on purpose.. and I do think I would get more enjoyment putting Nascar back to what it was.. real driving.
-
Actually they do not reccomend you keep it cocked longer than 4 hours..
-
Yep them pesky compounds drove them away cause they are easier....lol
-
That's the beauty of opinions you don't have to

I get a kick out of the compound users ,they will cite archers who continually shoot the newest fastest bows, arrows broadheads and will not budge on a crossbow even a recurve crossbow.. whom they surpass with their super light hi tech carbon fiber bow now with super light gathering fiber optic pin and self ranging site.. For those that shoot traditional I feel for you the archers that consistently take gains bucks with antique equipment and tech are the real bowhunters . I love Barry Wensel.. modest traditional archer who consistently takes his deer At or under 15 yards.. unless your doing the same consistently to say something is easier or not a bow is self loathing.. and greedy imo. A stick and a string is just that no matter if horizontal vertical, self drawn or auto cooked. It kills by hemorrhaging period. But go out and buy the newest easier accessories for your compound and declare its so much harder than a crossbow is not solid on any level... 90% of crossbow owners are compound archers as well .. I use both and prefer my v bow.. why??? it's easier to maneuver much lighter, easier to carry and way quieter.. Inclusion is coming as as I feel for traditional archers when compounds were allowed.. their mantra was just practice compounds are to easy is the exact same one compound users are trying now.. a sharp broadhead kills the same way... Why fight I'd rather see more hunters and more families in the woods together from great grandpa that can't pull a bow anymore to the child who can't pull legal poundage yet at 12 years old.. we are only 3% of nys population and dwindling...
-
I've just watched a 49 year old pick up a bow and make 5 kill shots in his 1st 6 arrows.. release, peep, lighted pins , anchor point marker ( kisser button) 90% letoff .. really compounds are not hard at at all. A recurve or stick bow I'll conceede... but if your trying to say compounds are vastly different than a crossbow ........ Seasons don't bother me if they made spears legal I'd use one ,but to exclude a tool that kills the exact same way as any bow is not right.. the poor traditional archers used same.argument and lost and imo should be only ones to have their season contain the rut. As when bucks are rutting and are stupid its to easy and compounds and crossbows shouldn't be allowed.. if you want the pure effort that should belong solely to traditional archers only
-
Proper use of ,or not use of , is probably the difference between success and failure for many same a decoy use or non use...
-
I think you mean Barry Wensel is greatest archer in world.. and he doesn't push products or enter his buck in scoring contests.. maybe your to young to know who he is. Of course it would be to easy for him if he's a great archer.. Mos people aren't. Like saying anyone who can't run a 4.0 flat.forty can't play in sports..
-
They do late season , muzzleloader has its own early as well but crossbow shares theirs with bow... bow seems to be legal in all Seasons but don't want to share theirs like the friend who pals along at a meal . But ask him to chip in and he throws a fit
-
It only takes a little effort more than the other guy.. hence the saying 10% of hunters kill 90% of the game..
-
Deer will investigate when your gone and find your human scent ( you can't hide it) and then they associate that scent with people making it a repulsion scent vs attractant.. that's why the 1st time a scent is used it seems to work and then nothing the next 100x you use it.
-
I have no idea who Levi morgan is and his opinion is just that. He is in charge of his kids , ask the kid that's more important..
-
The issue with scents is they stay.. you leave and that scent is stuck on the leaves, trees , what ever you put it on for days.. you ruin more areas making a drag in or try evercalm on trees.. I can see that waxy stuff on trees for months after someone puts it on a limb. Once in a great while some deer may follow a trail to you but imo save your money and buy a good range finder or stand or blind or a new bow.. people spend crazy amount of money on scents.. All that Being said I have only had consistent luck using a fresh tarsal gland up wind from my spot 40 or 50 yards and it must be from a deer 3 miles or more away. A buck or doe, no bloody, refegerated in ziplock bad with a zip tie loop to hang it on a limb 2 to 3 ft off ground ,placed when hunting and removed when you leave placed back in zip lock bag and used maybe 2 or 3 days if refrigerated and temps are cool outside , after that it starts to turn rancid and doenst work.
