  1. Was thinking of starting to hand load my self a lot lately can you still get all the components to load by mail or do you have to ship to a FFL for things like primers and powder ?
  2. I don't know I hunt a lot of public land and I think I would feel uncomfortable carrying around any black scary rifle. i know there better when you planing on moving around with it in hand tho . My Pcp airgun has a pistol grip and it is definitely better when you are moving around with gun In hand .
  3. You got to be joking me. half the time that I been in dicks that ammo made up half the invotory of those stores seems like .
  4. Thanks no but I got relatives that live up that way so I go up there a lot to visit . I wonder do they make a 458 SOCOM with the AR action that fits into a traditional stock if you know what I mean that looks like a mini 14 . Or can it be built that way do you think .
  5. Thanks can you put some links of good shops in NY they specialize in that stuff ? If decide to get one .
  6. Ok that looks cool . But how do go about putting one together here legally with all the safe act regs (Just assume I know almost nothing about AR platforms ) Now you got me thinking of lots of questions . Here goes my list . If i want to buy .458 SOCOM I buy a AR lower. can you buy them already with a fixed mag or do I have to pin it my self after i buy it and what attachment method is compliant with the Safe Act can I drill and tap the mag in place or does it have to be pop riveted or spot welded in place for example or all of the above methods would be legal . Can I do all this myself or I do have to use a gunsmith FFL To buy the parts and put them together . I dont really get the law on this . is it legal to buy a intact AR as long as you pin the mag after you buy it ? Or you have to buy parts and pin it before you assemble it ? I think I'm going to get The .450 Bushmaster Ruger American Like the looks of traditional rifle much better to be honest. Plus less headache with all the regs on any scary black gun
  7. I hunted with the same bow for 20 years before I got a new one and I still hunt with the same guns . But other things like new shoes camo other hunting related gadgets stands blinds I change more often .
  8. Wow have not tried hunting that place in 15/20 years I have seen turkey and deer in there before there is defiantly game in there . Just matter of being in the right place at the right time.
  9. Loud!!! I always use ear protection when I shoot loud never enters my mind when I buy a rifle
  10. My guess is he has the mag fixed in place . So it's no longer an assault rifle in NY
  11. Where I hunt most the time your not going to have a shot more then 80 /100 yards . But I don't want to undergun more then I have to either. Just enough to get something nice and short and light. For those times when I want to do a lot of walking .
  12. That is the one I was looking at just the other day 2 issues I have tho saw video and they said bolt was a little stiff and finding that ammo locally. Is, your action smooth ?
  13. Probably not or a very light low powerd one defeats the purpose of that particular set up I have plenty of long range proper bolt guns for that already
  14. How far did it go before it dropped dead, the one at 250 yards
  15. Ok let me ask you this one if I wanted to get the shortest light carbine 6 pounds or less that I can find that could smack deer ethically . What Calibers would you recommend. Nothing in the 30-06 range gets that light really . This about all I could find 44 mag or Marlin Model 336Y Lever Action Rifle .30-30 Win 16.25" Barrel 5 Rounds Laminate Stock Blued Finish 70524 Got a bunch of standard deer rifles not one light carbine would like to own one capable of killing deer ethically at 100 yards .
  16. What is your opinion on 7.62x39 just out of curiosity . not that I have tied hunting with that caliber either nor will .
  17. Wow I was expecting someone to say maybe 150 200 yards max Not that I am a expert in ballistics or hunt with .223 But from reading the books they recommend 1000 foot pounds of energy to ethically kill a deer. Which is probably 10 times more then what is potentially lethal. Have you actully shot and recovered a deer at that range ? Or are we speaking hypothetically.
  18. Just a question for you .223 users What the effective range of that caliber on deer in your experiece? For a ethical kill .
  19. Cow Chicken Pig Goat Rabbit Deer Ok not to many wild cows or chickens pigs or goats running around NY take them off the list that leaves just Rabbit Then deer .
  20. If they were not more or less science based the deer populations would have gone virtually extinct long ago from over hunting . The fact that we still have plenty of deer around year after year shows in part it is based on data . Of course no system is % 100 Accurate. But for the most part they work
  21. I know people that have seen them cross the long island sound to rye before . Those are some sneaky deer .
