  1. The unknown is exactly why ł bring my standard mix. If ł have to track for myself or someone else, there's no knowing how long that may take or how far we will travel. ł have helped a buddy track the better part of a mile through some nasty stuff before and shredding layers combined with a Gatorade made it bearable for me. 2 qt is a lot, more than ł need... But ł can always share and the hot thermos can help warm you back up if that tracking keeps you out while the evening draws on and the temp drops.
  2. ł generally do all day sits. A PB & J, baggie of jerky, Gatorade and a 2 qt thermos of either hot chocolate, coffee or apple cider.

    PA trip

Thank you. This is exactly the kind of content that caused me to create an account here a few years' ago. Hopefully there's a lot of time left to make those memories, they'll be great once made and treasured for a lifetime!
  4. Will be our first opener in our new tower blind. 12 and right hand is in a cast due to sliced flexor tendon, but he'll be sitting dark to dark with me regardless. Hopefully we'll have some action, we're set up on a small opening that has lanes looking up to the hilltop and across to the ravine. Apple trees behind and to our left where the doe like to bed... Wind "should" be in our face for the approach. Plan on putting a plot in next year but simply couldn't get it done this year.
  5. This is my first year huntimg from a blind, it has always been a ladder stand or my climber in the past. ł must say. It's completely different and makes it much easier to get young ones to commit to dark-dark sits.
  6. The cheap foam mats for garages and exercise equipment work good too. It was a breeze cutting them to size. ł need to get a good picture of inside but here is mine:
  7. Had a four point poke his head out of briars at 20 yards, he circled us twice anywhere from 70-120 yards out during both rounds never offering a shot. A single doe just made her way down the hill at about 150 yards and appears to have laid down around the wild rose and sumac. Hopefully something will offer a shot soon.
  8. Been out here for about 1.5 hours, 32⁰ with a crunchy approach. Glad to have been here and settled in early because everything shattered under my feet. Good luck!
  9. If anyone can help out a struggling Veteran, it would be greatly appreciated. Dave is a stand-up guy who fought for this country and was wounded during the Persian Gulf War (TBI - traumatic brain injury) and also suffers from PTSD. Flooding took a great toll on his farm including the majority of his equipment as it was staged about his property. Over 40" of water washed out fences including posts which allowed his cattle to wander and also displaced bales of hay throughout the property. Not to mention the extensive damage the storm waters did to his home including the furnace and other large appliances. As you can imagine, this situation has him very behind on preparing for the winter not to mention the financial burden it has caused. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank You! https://gofund.me/78c674a5 More info to follow.
  10. Am ł the only one who remembers when this stuff had flavors? ł recall chocolate, maple, something unique to the corn shaped ones..
  11. This comes to mind: Amerstep 15' Tripod with RealTree Seat (New In Box) $199 obo - Hunting Items For Sale and Trade - Hunting New York - NY Empire State Hunting Forum - Bow Hunting, Fishing, Bear, Deer https://huntingny.com/forums/topic/93067-amerstep-15-tripod-with-realtree-seat-new-in-box-199-obo/
  12. There was still quite a bit of green on Saturday in 9M. That afternoon we took a trip to the Kinzua Bridge State Park and caught the foliage just slightly past prime... ł would highly recommend a trip there next year to anyone who enjoys the fall foliage! West: North: East:
  13. Saturday Morning was our only sit, we were out until noon and didn't see a single tail. Nice to see reports of successful harvests! We'll be back at it come November unless ł can get time off of work for a few archery sits. May ł add how refreshing it is to see a thread on here that is supporting our "replacements" and encouraging them to get out and hunt. The inappropriate content and political back in forth is chasing away more members than it's worth, not to mention an entire class of possible forum members. A renewed focus needs to be put on making this forum board appropriate for all ages. Youth are the future of our sport, ł refuse to allow my step-son to visit this site to gain knowledge here until the inappropriate content can be reeled in OR he turns 18 if this site is still around. ł can turn look away. He can't "unsee" anything he shouldn't see.
  14. Anyone have experience with the "Covert AW1-A" ? ł have 2 Bushnell HD Trophy Cams that have given up. Circa 2014... Need at least 1 replacement. ł like having one at the mouth of my driveway to catch license plates. The covert app is intriguing.
  15. Lots of inspiration here. Will be assembling my tower blind this weekend. What's everyone covering their floors with? ł will have plywood decking, and kicking around a couple ideas about how to cover it... ł want something that will have some insulative properties but more importantly be weather proof and QUIET. My enclosed space will be 6'x6', ł already have a my buddy heater w/ hookups for a 20lb tank, shooting chairs and a urinal design which will run through flexible pvc down to a French drain. Heavily leaning towards one of these as opposed to outdoor/boat carpeting --> Thoughts?
  16. Looking to "gift" a few hunting/survival themed magazines to a young reader with an interest in the outdoors. Any suggestions? ł used to read Outdoor Life and a homesteading magazine ł can't place at the moment.
  17. Lot's of valuable members like her have been lost unfortunately. Would be great if they came back around, wish them the best whether they are lurkers now or not. -My car has a "sopranoes trunk" too... but ł ratchet strap them to my trunk against my spoiler... Time to buy a truck ł guess.
  18. ł would love to, but haven't secured a spot in 9F yet despite optimistically getting 2 dmps for 9F between my stepson and ł. Wishing everyone who can make it out good luck. Definitely a great opportunity for the new hunters.
  19. Cattaraugus state forest, this morning.
  20. Long Island, ł believe.
