CF bolt actions don't usually suffer any damage from dry firing. The one exception I know of is my 5mm Remington Magnum CF conversion due to its "nailhead" firing pin with separate striker. The U S Military used to practice dry firing with the '03 Springfield.

To me, a "proper" rifle has a wood stock and blue steel.

Well, I shot my 1st target for the BENCHREST CHALLENGE and I'm currently in 1st place for "Factory Sporter" Class despite a flyer on one of the targets.

I'm looking for the more reasonably priced competition grade 22lr ammo. I'll be taking relatives to the Syracuse airport tomorrow and would like to find some more varieties of 22rf ammo for 100yd benchrest competition. Specifically SK Plus or Wolf Mt. Maybe some of the less expensive RWS varieties. I shot this target yesterday with my CZ-452 American and right now I'm in 1st place in the Factory Sporter;Class on the RF Central 100yd Benchrest Challenge.

There is recoil, and there is perceived recoil. Stock geometry affects the later a great deal. One of the most "unpleasant" guns I have ever shot is my late Father's 16ga H&R Topper single shot shotgun. Trying to bring tough Fox Squirrels out of tall Illinois Oaks with high brass loads would beat your cheek up so bad you looked like you did a round with Mike Tyson. A stock with a lot of drop at the heel and/or a butt plate angled toward the toe will cause the gun to jump an beat up the cheek bone. A light weight weapon makes it even worse.

We started seeing those in my neck of the woods last summer. We saw one on our deck and a few days later at the neighbor's about a mile down the road.

My Wife recently posted this on Face Book. It's from May 15 2013. Kennedi was 4 years old and that was the 1st mushroom she found with Gammy. We are so fortunate to be able to literally walk out our back door and start hunting mushrooms. For years we didn't know they grew here. My wife found one growing right in the yard while mowing several years back. After that, my son also started finding them while fishing along the St Regis River. Shortly after our initial discovery, me brought a mess home in his "T" shirt that filled the kitchen sink.

There are no poisonous mushroom that look remotely like a morel. The poisonous so called "false morel" doesn't really look like a true morel. It has a semi-detached cap while a morel has a top that grows directly from the stem. Morels do have 3 color variations. Gray. yellow and less common black which are really a dark brown like the one in the picture above. There is one black mixed in with the gray and yellow morels in this batch that Wifey found a few years ago..

I knew when Wifey stayed out in the rain yesterday that she must be finding Morels. They're still a bit stunted from the cool weather. Small, but nice and fresh. Few if any slug holes in them. She didn't take a picture until she had split/rinsed them and had them ready to soak in salt water. (gets rid of any slugs) Nice little "mess" though. All grays and yellows. It's supposed to be sunny and near 80*F Wednesday. I would expect some big 'uns. to be poppin' then.

The size that you find is more dependent on the conditions that produce or don't produce "vigor". Theoretically, they Grow over several days, but the critters will get to them after a few days. Mostly slugs in my parts. If you are not going to return within a few days, you might as well pick any you find.

They don't "grow" . You might as well pick them before the slugs and deer get to them as they won't get any bigger.

The only bogus thing I noticed was the 1905 self loader recoiled noticeably firing wimpy WSL (Winchester Self Loading cartridges while the Krags, most likely firing heavy recoiling 220gr bullets, had no perceptible recoil.

Watch closely during the ambush firefight and you'll see the 1895 Winchester lever action. It is a fleeting glimpse, but you can identify it by the stack magazine in front of the trigger guard. I wonder if that one was chambered in 30/40 Krag too. They were chambered in 30/40 as well as 30-06 The Model 1905 auto loader shows up in several scenes.

I've been watching AMC's "Son". In the last episode I saw a curious looking auto loading rifle that I could not identify. I did some Google searching and found it to be a Winchester Model 1905. Later in the episode there was an ambush scene & low & behold I saw a Krag. All told, I could identify 1 M-1905 Winchester, 2 Krags, 1 M-1895 Winchester and a Vickers machine gun on the "Gringo" side. It appeared that some of the Mexicans were using M-1893 Spanish Mausers. Of course there were other lever actions employed, but the M-1895 was the only one I could identify because of its unique magazine. The scene was supposed to be taking place in 1915.
