Best Turkey gun out there is the 870 with a short barrel 24" give or take. Thats all I have ever used. Small and light for when you're running and gunning. They are pretty inexpensive too. Def look into one of those

Awesome! One is better than none in my opinion. You never know another longbeard can slip in to the area any day. Keep your hopes up! I will be in PA until April 30th and then making the trek up to camp that afternoon. Just got a phone call last night from our friends. 3 toms hanging out right around camp! That def got the heart pumping last night! Good Luck Whitetail Addict!

I totally agree with you TPhunter. I usually only use a few calls out of my dozen or so during the season, but Turkeys are like fish. One day they bite on worms the next day they like minnows. Each of my calls all make different sounds, anywhere from a really young hen that is high pitched, all the way down to a crackly raspy sound that sounds like a old lady who has smoked for years LOL. It all depeneds on what those birds want to hear. Turkeys are also like my wife. You tell them what they want to hear it makes the hunters lives that much easier! HAHA! 8 days guys!

I may have you beat TeeBugg LOL. Vest as follows: -9 mouth calls -2 box calls -2 slate calls -4 strikers -Crow call -owl call -2 other locator calls -2 pair of gloves -2 face masks -knife -clippers -toilet paper -compass -gps -sand paper -chaulk -thermacell -shells -water -snacks -2 decoys I am sure I am missing a few things, but thats most of em. When you park your truck and hike a few miles up a mountain and you dont start heading back to the truck until about 11 you take everything you need.

Awesome! Congrats!

Just wanted to wish all the youth hunters and their mentors luck for a successful hunt this weekend! Post some pics/stories so us guys who can't take youth out tomorrow can get a little taste of what is to come in 10 days! Have fun and stay safe!

X2 dbhunterNY. I use all AP/APG. Most of it from Cabelas or Dicks. All light weight clothing. Can't go wrong with Realtree. PS: I am a big Realtree guy, but Mossy Oak Obsession Green is really good too.

X2 TeeBugg! Last year was the worst turkey season I have hunted in 15 years! Birds were done the time May 1st came. This year is game on boys! BOOM BOOM POW!
-
Seems like there has been an increase in my area. 10 years ago I never saw a turkey hunter, now there seems to be a lot more.
-
This year should be stellar compared to last year! I am so pumped! Good luck guys!

Whatever patterns the best out of your gun is what you should use. Every gun/choke is different.

The keyword here is that I TRY to roost birds. Its hit or miss. NY especially. The birds seem to never gobble at night, but let me tell ya something Jack (Uncle Si voice)...in the morning the gobble their flippin' heads off! Honestly, I'd rather have them gobble in the morning than at night any day of the week! Getting pumped! 2 weeks Jack!

Doesn't look like he is quite ready to rock n roll yet. Which is good for us. Mark my words. If it stays in the 50s the next week or so, and IF it hits 70s the first week of hunting season, its game on! The birds will be so fired up!

Any one else gearing up to do a little turkey hunting?

I am ready! Will be at camp April 30th until May 5th! Bring it! -
x2...the only way to see is to shoot your gun and see how they perform out of your setup. My dad and I both shoot a Remington 870 with different chokes. Winchesters pattern better on my setup then his. All depends on your setup. Pattern your gun with multiple shells, size, and shot size

I am def pumped for the season this year (not that I am never pumped), but I know last year was probably my worst season ever in the 15 years I have been hunting turkeys. They were totally done breeding and could careless about finding hens. Time for redemption!

Hello everyone! I will be near Norwich the first week of May for vacation. I am going to be turkey hunting and I love to trout fish and since we can only hunt turkey until Noon. I was wondering if anyone would be nice of enough to give me a few tips on where to go trout fishing. I do a lot of trout fishing in PA where I live and I fish mostly big creeks/rivers for browns and rainbows. I own waders the whole nine yards. If anyone wants to give me a few pointers on where to go and you don't want others knowing where to go, you can inbox me or if you can just post away on this forum. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks! Z

This cold weather well def help us hunters. Daylight does have influence, but the weather def has some affect as well. Notice last year when we had the warmest March and April on record and the time the season came around the birds were done breeding practically. This year is game on! Bring it!

What county are you in paula?

I def have my top 3. I have a total of 9 mouth calls and 3 of them are my got to that I can fool any bird, but sometimes thats not what they want to hear, so I will switch to the ones that sound crappy to me, but maybe loved by the birds. I use the same calls year after year, BUT I always have a back up of my favorite top 3 cuz you never know when u might lose one or blow a reed out.

No worries man!! Plenty of strut left come May! Cant wait!
