  1. six flatheads at sunset about 195 yards. I reall couldnt get a bead on a big one because the soy beans are still in the field kind of difficult to single one out . they wer clumped together in two groups. I should hav skipped the ground blind and went for the ladder stand. Isnt that how it is more so than not.
  2. I have 42 acres behind the house. Another 30 in Pendelton with an adjoining 20 and 75 acres. I got the 30 because i gave the guy a deal on a job. sweetest thing that ever happened. Its about a 12 minute drive from home and fifteen from work. and yes my boss lets me leave early.. My Mom and Dads house , thats 9 acres in Orangeville. then a place in Pike Thats about twenty acres. The club i belong to is 400 acres.
  3. been at it all day. its time to shoot some more.
  4. yup. A cop came into the store. He tried on a couple things and left his side arm in the changing booth. Boy those Carhartts are nice enough to make you leave your gun behind.
  5. I did but thats not me. Like I said I did not put reflective tape on my deer hauler. i shot mine last monday
  6. is it fatal if the coyotes get it before the fatal shot does it in???? Leg shot?? Are we talking ankle or knee. Cause you know a deer with a bum knee cant out run a coyote
  7. I saw that this morning. wow thats close. I would definatley want armor piercing rounds . and im pretty sure I would have been emptying the clip. 24 pounds short of a record bear.
  8. Dead when they hit the ground , or they never leave the spot where they were shot. A good old fashioned dirt nap.... Wounded deer run away and need to be tracked.
  9. Thats just good hunting.Your better than your friends dont pay attention to them.Besides you were right , that was not the shot. you have to be patient with a muzzleloader. Your karma cops will be around to reward you someday.
  10. So I closed the weld shop at 4 today. Something in my gut was calling to me, and as a firm believer of doing what my gut say, I left for my ground blind. Its now 4:15 . I dont have long but its going to be kinda uncomfortable. just a tarp on cold wet ground , no chair. my shop bibs and a dirty sweatshirt. Oh well. Things a starting to wind down, no deer sightings and im starting to think about winding things up for the evening, figured i got about ten minutes max. I look over to the left as far as i could see and i see a deer. now im thinking right away its a doe.Well let me tell ya ,that thought quickly left my mind. Now I passed and a small six point yesterday at 80 yards in an open field. I wasnt about to do that again. so i pull up my trusty smoke pole and size him up. He is just standing there looking around eating on soybeans. plenty of time to put a good shot on him. So thats what I did. I didnt see him run but I heard crashing, so I figured he split. Nope. about sixty yards.I walked over to where I shot and im looking around for hair or blood,I dont see anything. Im starting to panic instantly.then I see it . the Soybean Buck. Not much of a blood trail when you drop them on the spot.its more like a blood puddle. So thats three deer in two days. I think the butcher shop is about to be open for business. I called the guy I left at work. he said but you havent even been gone an hour. I smiled.
  11. it sure does make it hard to hunt bedded deer when hunters are not pushing them around
  12. well I just got back to the house. That was a successful track and recovery. Seems like my shot was a little bit back. Liver shot. Doe ran about two hundred yards and just collapsed from blood loss. thats two hanging for me today. getting ready to go back and sit the evening. good luck to those getting it done. now i have to go rescue that doe from my coonhound. before she swallows it hole like a python.
  13. I forgot to bring a gallon zip lock bag that would not leak in my 4runner. weather tech floor mats only work if it drips on it. yup blood on the carpet. thanks to my honey it should all be cleaned up now.it leaked out of the bag through my backpack . just my luck.
  14. 7 this morning i let a doe have it. about 50 yards. looks like a gut and liver shot. i backed out. went to get the one that walked out after it. that doe dropped where i shot it. The liver is in the dehydrator. Wont the dogs be happy. Going to have a little tenderloin breakfast and head back out after it. there is still a little snow so tracking should be a breeze.I barley had the bullet stuffed down the barrel before I was lining up the second shot. Good times.
  15. one lone flat head early this morning then 3 hours later i was swarmed by the turkeys. real slow except for the freezing rain.
  16. super deer. thats going to look good on your wall
  17. sand bag the front high enough so you can fit the stock into your shoulder. or just sit or kneel. its how you will be shooting anyway unless your taking your shooting device in the woods with you. it will take more rounds down range to get sighted in comfortably , but hey more shooting makes you a better shot. your not going to take a shooting aid into an elevated stand.start at twenty and move back . it will take boxes of ammo but hey at least you will know what you have.Old school baby. old timers knew what they were doing.
  18. i second on the excalibur. we use one and its at least once or twice a month. The wife makes chicken jerky for our 4 our dogs. it holds about 16 lbs. of jerky that we extrude through the jerky attachment that attaches to our grinder, its one of the Lem big bites.Awesome grinders.
  19. smoked him, good job. that right there is how you do it. congrats.
