growalot
3 baby squirrel...ya I know...but....there was no way I was leaving them there to suffer more than they all ready had...don't know if they blew out of nest or crawled out after Mom was killed...but skin and bones with flys and fly eggs protruding from there eyes mouths and bodies...nasty bugs crawling on them ....two too weak to move and one screaming...so sad they were about 5inches long without the tails and had wht /grey fuzz on the tails really young for this time of year...surprised they lived long enough to have that many fly eggs on them...poor things... MuzzyLoader
That's a Tough thing to do... oust a baby animal. Our value system says to help infant animals m in anyway possible and nurture them back to health (so we can hunt them as adults - ironic huh?). But that's just who we are as hunters. However there are times like Growie just had, and... helping means putting them down. Sad... but you did the right thing as they won't suffer any longer. ants
Sounds like you did the right thing......From what you said I would have done the same...can't let them suffer like that.

growalot
More like food for fox or yote...pretty sure they are already serving another purpose....we've had a lot of hawks and I've been hearing owls much more lately...they are hunting the trees.... with all the beech and cherry dropping the squirrel and munks have been very very busy all day long...Watched a hawk carry a grackle away the other day...thank heavens they've moved in too....almost as bad as starlings Edited September 1, 2012 by growalot

landtracdeerhunter
Ran through a baby rabbit nest while raking the other day. Didn't see it. Watched a hawk swoop down and get lunch. Hawks follow the tractor. Seems a little late for rabbit. Always feels a little bad when the young don,t have a chance. growalot
..ya I know...but.... why do you think I said that....there comes a time when one needs to be humane...there is a difference in putting down a suffering animal when life events put you in a place and time to do so and killing baby squirrels for what stew??...I f the DEC wants to come and arrest me for saying I did something humane hell let them come and I'll plead my case in court...at their expense...I did not you'll love this..."Harvest " them I merely stopped what had already been a prolonged nasty death sequence....Ya every thing I say is made up...if that's what makes you feel better...think that...lol Edited September 1, 2012 by growalot

132 eight pointer
Cut down a tree one evening in my yard several yrs. ago and found a squirrel's nest in it.Found one baby still alive.Feeling sorry for the little creature I put it in a shoe box with some leaves and left it among the branches that were not removed yet.The next morning I was surprised as I was making coffee to look out my window and see a squirrel looking around the branches, then inside the box.The squirrel quickly picked the baby up like a dog would a puppy and off they went.If I had found a helpless animal being fed on by insects I wouldn't lose any sleep over killing them.
