Kludes
So when the winds blowing 15+ mph what are your guys thoughts and opinions on deer movement and activities on those days ... do u think they stay bedded or are active from being spooked by wind
Culvercreek hunt club
Perfect day to go stalk in the corn. Put the wind in your face and cross the rows.
Doewhacker
They stay active, best time to still hunt if you can.

Jeremy_K
I read an article a couple years back by a guy who actually had a logbook of over 400 whitetail hunts. He recorded everything including the weather conditions. The windy days had significantly less deer sightings. I had an amazing bow season last year myself. I saw deer pretty much every hunt. The windy days, not so much. Once in a while on a breezy day I'd see does milling around the edges of the corn field within the first couple rows. The guy in the article also mentioned that not one Pope and Young record buck was taken in winds greater than 15mph. The records increase gradually the less the recorded winds were. I wish I could remember where I read the article. I know they hunker down in the corn on the more windy days. My theory is that their hearing is greatly diminished when it's windy and they choose not to move much without all of their senses.

Apparently a bird brain....Kansas and other midwest states hardly have winds under 15 during hunting season. he must have inside info as to how all the hunters for eons have been killing book bucks there. WoodManOutdoorAdventures
Could be used to your advantage especially if you know their routes that they take then again a buck being in the rut might just flip out and got the other way! Be a nice shot with the bow. What do you think, cut into it at an angle maybe? Might get a lot of lift...Not sure
orion
My problem with hunting in high winds is the accuracy. Arrows move, bow moves, in hand, trees sway its tough in high winds. Edited October 16, 2012 by orion
Guns&ReligionCop
Deer always are more spooky when its windy but it doesn't keep me out of the woods. I just pick my spots differently if the wind is really blowing in circles.

Kludes
Yea behind my house I only have 30 acres 2 stands and playing the wind is not really an option so today shooting light almost done and out walks a doe 55+ yrds away upwind and I see her next the momma walks out and boy she was the biggest doe I ever seen thought she was a big buck until gotta good look at her ... Then they were real jumpy walking towards me with the wind howling over 25+ mph and it swirled a couple times put her nose up turned made there way out well so I thought now it was dark I went to get down and off goes a couple other white flags bounding away .... I guess seeing deer was good but the wind spoiled it for me as usual
crappyice
Early season high winds are tough since I can't rely on hearing them AND most of the leave have not fallen..can't see them either. Also not a big fan of the feeling of tree surfing when the wind is howling.
mxsmitz201
hunting cornfields and the golden rod/brushy fields is a good time to hunt in the high winds for me. have yet to come across a deer bedded in the corn though. hope my luck will change
Guns&ReligionCop
I woke up it was so windy this morning I pulled the plug and went back to sleep. I hunt in the woods and I'm afraid of widow makers when theres that many wet leaves still on the trees
First-light
I found when windy deer are in a hurry to get where they are going. You have to be on alert to get that shot. They are very spooky and don't like to hang in one spot too long.
