snowlt14
Hit my one and only stand yesterday afternoon. I have been seeing some deer but all does and well out of range. I am hunting a small patch of woods between the interstate and a housing development. I have been getting some really good bucks on camera but was never able to time them right. The owner of the land only wants me hunting after 9 am so I don’t wake her up when I park and get ready, Cant complain she lets me hunt a great spot. My other go to spot now has 10 houses on it. Got in and set right around 12 noon with a stiff breeze right in my face. I put a couple of tinks buck bombs around my stand hoping something would come in. Around 4 pm I catch something moving to my right and see a doe passing about 50 yards away and going out of range. Right up her butt was a spike, I grunted a few times to try and get them to stop but the doe got nervous and ran back the way she came with the spike in tow. Almost last light I was getting ready to call it a night when I see a deer walking straight towards my stand, get up grab the bow just in time to see it’s a good size doe and she is working into 20 yards. While she passes in front of me I heard a branch snap and see a 4 pointer following her. With only a week left before gun season I decided I would take the shot. He was just over 30 yards away broadside, I let the arrow fly and watch the famous jump. Confident of a good shot and darkness closing fast I decided to get down and look for my arrow, easy find with the lighted nock. Pass though with bright red blood. Went out to my truck and warmed up before going back looking. Deer ran 50 yards a most and piled up. While gutting the deer the coyotes were barking and getting closer so we began the drag out. Some may say it’s only a 4 pointer and there are much bigger out there but this is only my second kill with the bow so I’m pretty proud of it. I put in a lot of hard work locating the land, getting permission, scouting and hanging the stand. This spot has a lot of deer but I fear once gun season opens the corn filed 400 yards from the stand may be there death bed. I too will be hunting gun season but only looking for mr big. Sorry for the long post Good luck everybody

wheelieman
That corn field 400 yds away is the last spot you would see me sitting, Id keep the bow sit where you are and when everbody else is sitting on the corn you will be sitting in their bedding area, Getting there at 9 is prolly just about the right time too
