Big Indian
Welcome ! Where do you live? Lots of good places to do all kinds of hunting out there. Waterfowl, deer, small game. Look @ DEC website for info on public land in Suffolk. When I go there I feel like I'm upstate, without the 3 hour drive, tons of tolls, traffic and $100 r/t in gas. I have completed the Online Hunter Education Course for the state of New York! at www.huntercourse.com need to get field day to qualify. And yes, i have bought Savage .308 Bolt-Actions and now looking for a shotgun.
burmjohn
Hrm, I didnt know you could do it online. Welcome to the site... Generally when you do it in person from what I remember you get the thing right there and you can go get your license at the store or town hall that does it. rfazli
Jose: this is exactly what i'm looking to buy now 22 and a 12 ga. But i need 12 ga first then 22. Any recommendation? Elmo: smithtown and you?
shawnhu
Smithtown, right next to Stony. The Ruger 10/22 was an excellent rifle, but may be a problem now with the new laws. Next up I think is the Henry Lever action, tube fed.

Elmo: smithtown and you? Jose? There's no Jose in this conversation. There's a Joseph though. Haha! Just kidding. I live in NYC. Just asking because knowing where you are can help because people local to your area can give hunting tips specific to your location. Hunting near NYC is slightly different than say the Adirondacks. Elmo: smithtown and you? ive got a mossberg 930 semi auto and love it!!! and ive heard great stuff about ruger 10/22's..... i dont really like my 22 (semi auto) but it is a pretty old one made by savage they dont make it anymore and im sure they imroved the design on the new one... several of my friends have mossberg 500 pump guns that are really nice.... i REALLY like mossberg!!!! and savage is my favorite rifle company... what are you looking for in a shotgun? pump? semi? turkey gun? duck gun? ect ect my 930 is the duck/goose model, its black and has a really long barrel (i think its about 27 or 28 in) but i want to buy a shorter barrel for turkey hunting.... i WANTED a pistol grip stock too but thanks to Cumoron and his idiot friends that aint happening.... semi's are less kick but ive found 12 ga dont kick bad at all... its the 30-06 my friend has that pounds my shoulder.... LOL any questions? lol
Elmo
Shotgun kick depends on the load. I can shoot #6 steel shot all day but when I put in a slug round, that same shotgun rings my bell every time I pull the trigger. Because of the various loads, some people have told me they've had theirs jam here and there (not often) when they use a load that does not have enough kick to cycle another round into the chamber. You need enough kick to push the bolt all the way back enough for it to grab the next round. At the same to time, the bolt has to have enough tension to pick up the round and slam it into the chamber tight.
