HuntOrBeHunted
Has anyone ever shaved some metal off to make a lighter trigger pull on ther rifle?? I have a rifle and I hate how hard it is to pull the trigger it's the only gun I own that I cant get a really tight consistant grouping out of, and I have owned it for some years and spent a fair amount of time at the range with it. I know I can replace the trigger but they cost a little over 150 dollars for one at this point i'm not sure I would want to invest that kind of money in a rifle that hasn't impressed me. Anyone ever do this??
Doc
Pay the money. Improved trigger pull is well worth the cost. Actually, that is one area where I wouldn't consider it a do-it-yourself project unless you have the skills and knowledge and maybe proper guidance to do it. It could become a safety issue. Lawdwaz
Good Lord NO! Are you nuts? Doc is spot on. Only thing I'd do is have a good gunsmith look at it or replace it. What gun are you talking about anyway?
Single_shot
"Good Lord NO!" Exactly! If you want to save money, have a smith polish it first. In my exp that is all that was needed. You can shoot any of my rifles and sware they all had trigger jobs.Very light smooth and crisp....all because a smith polished them up. Never shave anything.
Culvercreek hunt club
^^^^^ What they said. What type of gun are you talking about having work done to?
HuntOrBeHunted
30-06 Savage Arms model 111. I wasn't really wanting to do it myself but after looking it up thought it could be possible. I did a google search and seen that it is common problem with them model 111's. I'll either be getting a new trigger or just bring it to a local gunsmith.
MACHINIST
see if you can find a drop in accutrigger
Elmo
My guns all have different tigger pull weights. I go as light as 1.5 lbs and as heavy at 5 lbs. Personally, I prefer the 2 to 2.5 lbs trigger pull weight. I want to feel some tension go off especially if I'm wearing gloves when it's cold out. Since you should keep you finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, I don't a trigger that is so light, the gun goes off just by my glove fabric gracing the trigger. With that said, I also going to blame myself because I won't adjust myself, will go to a gunsmith, but been procrastinating and never did so instead, I just know by heart how each rifle shoots at what distance and stick to my limitations. This spring, my guns will go to the gunsmith for some trigger adjustments. No more procrastinating.

Like I said,a good polish and you would think it had a new precision trigger installed.http://www.shootersforum.com/gunsmithing/26036-savage-111-trigger-replacement.html Let us know what you end up doing and how it turns out for ya. Pygmy
I've had trigger jobs on 4 or 5 of my rifles...All are sweet now..About 2.5 lbs and crisp. All but one were done by a gunsmith and I don't think I paid more than $35 for any of them. I did one myself, the single set trigger on my CZ-550. The adjustment instructions that came with the operating manual were very simple and it worked like a charm. I only adjusted the single stage pull..The set trigger function was light enough already. shawnhu
Used to do trigger work for my paintball guns all the time, but I wouldn't mess with shaving metal off a firearm. Too risky. I'd go as far as polishing the parts using a dremel if it was creeping. I'm a big fan of light triggers because I'm very safety conscious. I'm uneasy around those that are not, regardless of their trigger weight.

I was reading threw the article and it seems like most others i've seen some good stuff don't get me wrong. A lot of people seem to go to the accutrigger, I looked into them and don't like the fact that it's relying on a little spring to fire. I feel that it could jar out and is just a weak set up. I'm going to bring it to the local gunsmith sometime soon. It's apart now and I can see were the metal moves when I cock the bolt and it grinds on the sear making it harder to load a round A freind of mine has the same gun and it's much easier to load and way smoother to shoot. I might even call savage arms and see if the would repair it. It's been like this since I bought it.
