All over CNN, Foxnews, etc. The Journal News, a local paper for counties just north of nyc, posted the names and addresses of all pistol permit holders.

People are fighting back by posting everything personal about journal news employees and their families

Pandoras box has now officaly been opened........ very sad day. after reading about this and then seeing it there are so many things that i want to say but i cannot for fear of rambling and straying off topic. i just hope that this news rag and it's editor's realize what they have just done all for the sake of "trying to inform"

People who don't have pistols are worried their houses will be targeting by thieves. People who do have pistols are worried that employers and fellow colleagues will now see they are gun owners and may be viewed differently amongst their peers. This area of NY is filled with anti's. Very different than upstate NY. Many people listed on this map work in NYC with high profile titles for major corporations/firms.

I think its great, that people are now posting all the personal information of all of the Journal News employees including stuff about their kids, where they go to school, etc. This is going to get crazy!

Why do you think it's good that information about their kids is made public? How will that improve the image of gun owners?

It is already public information and available to anyone. It was done a few years ago too.

Just because you have a pistol permit does not guarantee you own a pistol and just becasue you don't have a pistol permit doesn't guarantee you don't have a long gun. That said if I am a burglar I am heading to the homes not on the list first since the odds will be in my favor. I think if anything the folks NOT on the list should be more upset than the ones on the list.

Virgil--Apparently the editors didn't care about anyone elses "kids" so I guess that eye for an eye thing must apply.

Listing the family information (kids) of the Journal News employees in my opinion is wrong and not necesssary.

At this point I'd rather see a list of companies that advertises in this news paper and get them to pull their advertisements.

Just because you have a pistol permit does not guarantee you own a pistol and just becasue you don't have a pistol permit doesn't guarantee you don't have a long gun. I disagree, if I'm a robber, I'm going to the homes with guns, wait until everyone goes to work, and try to pick up a couple unregistered guns

Well then you wouldn't care about the list they posted because the list is of pistol permit holders and all of the guns on those permits (if ther are any) would be registered.

After Newtown shootings, they felt they had an obligation to inform the public where the guns are in their neighbourhood (dumb move IMO).

Brewster, N.Y. – 12/26/2012 – Today Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C, I) called for the Journal News Newspaper, a Gannett Company, to immediately remove the map.

Yeah..I guess my question was semi rhetorical. IMO they did it to get a dig in on gun owners in general, and to call attention to their fish wrap of a paper. The whole focus on the Newtown shooting was on "the evil Bushmaster military type" weapons, what does pistol permits have to do with long guns? I think its great that people are posting personal info on the writer and news paper staff, but including info on their kids is out of line.

In my County it does. They won't give you the permit until you come in with the gun info to put on it. If you get rid of all the guns on your permit they revoke it. At least that's how it was when I got mine.

A few posts back someone mentioned something about including info on the kids of Journal reporters/employees. I don't know if kids info was actually posted, but I think it would be way over the top if it were.
