13BVET
Well, it would appear, once again, that Obama was full of s***. For those who thought that only those who make $250,000 and above were getting taxed, get ready to open your wallets. His claim that 98 percent of taxpayers would be protected from new taxes, is way off. In fact, over 77% of taxpayers are going to see tax increases! http://www.mail.com/business/markets/1795088-despite-deal-taxes-to-rise-americans.html#.7518-stage-hero1-
d-bone20917
This shouldn't be a surprise. Both sides have said they would let the SS payroll tax holiday expire. It was suppose to only be in place for one year and they ended up extending it for another (2011 and 2012). I guess if you never got the 2% tax break the last 2 years you wouldn't miss it now.
d-bone20917
"Obama pushed hard to enact the payroll tax cut for 2011 and to extend it through 2012. But it was never fully embraced by either party, and this time around, there was general agreement to let it expire."

I'm trying to figure out as to how this justifies his "Only those making $250,000 and above will see tax increases." It's also interesting to note that the lower middle class, and low income families will face new taxes. Doesn't this contradict what he's been claiming all this time? Elmo
We all knew that there was no way he can keep spending the way he's spending (continuing the war, universal healthcare), not doing a damn thing about the trade deficit, handing out bailout after bailout, and not expect a tax increase. There's going to be some lean times ahead as we try to climb out of our deficit.

People won't be happy when they get their first paycheck of 2013 and it's 2% less than last year, but that was always a temporary cut as part of the stimulus package. The federal income tax was what was being discussed during the election. It looks like the settled on raising taxes for income over $400,000 for singles and $450,000 for families. 13BVET
No disrespect, dbone, but this paragraph tells a whole different story, and the income doesn't even come close to $400,000. Households making between $40,000 and $50,000 will face an average tax increase of $579 in 2013, according to the Tax Policy Center's analysis. Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will face an average tax increase of $822.

As discussed above, that is referring to the roll back of the SS payroll tax which which was only meant to be in place for 1 year, but ended up being in place for 2. It was reduced from the normal 6.2% to 4.2% as part of the stimulus plan. There was no plan to extend this for another year that I heard. So you are right, basically everyone earning a paycheck is seeing a tax increase.
landtracdeerhunter
The President and senate continues to fail the American people. I had high hopes that Congress would stand their ground. They failed us too. Edited January 2, 2013 by landtracdeerhunter
