Spent Case Included With New Pistol?

I've heard 2 reasons. A proof round and so you can send it in to your state database. (Where required by law) I never understood how a shell could be unique enough from gun to gun.

Dam, I was just about to answer that. I was looking for a night on the town! I think they did away with COBIS a year or so ago. I bought a couple new pistols when it was still in effect.

S&W is still including the spent casing for some reason. My gun was made last month and only on the dealers shelf for a matter of hours.

No, mine was new and never on a shelf. It came from s&w after months of waiting for them to make one.

Ruger still includes a spent casing with each handgun also

S&W is still including the spent casing for some reason. My gun was made last month and only on the dealers shelf for a matter of hours.

i'll have to ask my friend about his walther P22 (made by S&W) and see if one came w it...
