TeeBugg
Will this extended cold push the breeding cycle later?
ghug92
Depends on how warm the weather is in the next few weeks. If it is warmer in the first few weeks of april then everything should hopefully be normal. Last year was all whacked up.
landtracdeerhunter
Last year, we got some nice hatches. The turkey needed it. This year may be more normal?
TeeBugg
Last season was weird for me. Way too much green up for normal turkey season around here. I believe we had a good hatch last year so hopefully we will have the same this season. I did drive by one of my spots the other day and saw a flock with tons of hens and jakes. Normally ill see a bunch of jakes and maybe two hens but it seemed to have equalled out now. And yes there was two beard draggers....big beard draggers! Five Seasons
i've seen them out and active already. I'm hoping it does push it back though as it seems nys is always late to the prime time with their 5/1 date.
Early
Total amount of daylight has greater influence on breeding than does temperature.
TurkeyHuntPA_NY
This cold weather well def help us hunters. Daylight does have influence, but the weather def has some affect as well. Notice last year when we had the warmest March and April on record and the time the season came around the birds were done breeding practically. This year is game on! Bring it! TeeBugg
I hope it does. I have literally seen squat for turkeys while driving to work and back. Last time it was like that....i took 2 birds in 2 days...great season!
Four Season Whitetail's
Have prob 80 birds or better on the farm now with monday morning 13 toms showin their stuff. There are a pile of them around this year!
G-Man
Ny has always had their season after peak breeding in April the exception is the youth hunt. I'm glad to see a "normal" spring this year .
TurkeyHuntPA_NY
I am def pumped for the season this year (not that I am never pumped), but I know last year was probably my worst season ever in the 15 years I have been hunting turkeys. They were totally done breeding and could careless about finding hens. Time for redemption!
