This is growing in my backyard… what is it?  Is it poisonous?

I believe it's Japanese knotweed. If I'm wrong I would like to know because I have some at my cabin. Very invasive and will take over.

Bill is right. That is  Pokeweed that can be poisonous to humans .

Almost looks like Japanese knotweed, except for the additional leaves. Between the main staggered leaves.  I've been battling a huge infestation at the farm for a few yrs. It's not easy to get rid of. 

Never heard of pokeweed. But know that I know what it is, I'll keep a eye out for it.

 It was a cool-looking plant but I can’t trust my kid not to eat it when he’s roaming free back there… especially if it’ll get berries.

[Nomad]

It’s a neat plant, cooked it is rich in many vitamins and nutrients, eaten raw it can make you sick or kill,you . Save that for me , I’ll make the Mrs a salad .
