josephmrtn
when should i put it out? one of you guys mentioned that the overhanging branch at this spot would be a good spot for one...
phade
I take my dripper with me. Have to. I just pee in them.
josephmrtn
lmao im saying when should i start a mock scrape? how early?
phade
No hard and fast rule. I'd keep it simple and open one up after you see the first one appear that is freshened up. I'm not sure what you are trying to do with one. Hunt over it?
josephmrtn
well im already hunting the area... i figured i may as well set up a scrape dripper if there is a chance if will increase my success... im asking when is a good time to set it, like a date or time... phade
Drippers are more work than they are worth imo. Better off just hunting based off the sign. Ill pee in scrapes if I need to but that's about it. Maybe stop at a park and get some zcrape dirt and snip an overhanging branch off to zip tie to your mock scrape. I'm not even huge on mocks but can be useful 10 ft down from an existing scrape.
NYBuckHunter27
wait till at least Oct 1st and see what kind of natural scrape activity you have in your area, if any at all depending how temperatures are. Also try Code Blue's Grave Digger...it works. Edited September 10, 2013 by NYBuckHunter27
wooly
Drippers are more work than they are worth imo. Makes me tired just thinking about all that work involved tying that baby to an overhanging branch and letting it soak for weeks at a time, lol Pheeeew..., when would I find time to actually hunt. I think drippers are less intrusive, and contamination left behind from freshening them yourself will be highest on days you'll be hunting by manually peeing in them. I do both, but the dripper scrapes get the most constant action.
phade
Last time I checked, I had to work for my money to spend on drippers, scents, not to mention going the store to buy them, setting them up, etc. A good old fashioned scrape dirt swap and licking branch swap is free from another hunting parcel. Or I can just whiz, too. Mere minutes after doing so... then... Have just as many of these as I suspect drippers do. Whatever works, but for me, less is more. bowaholic
You may see some scrapes early to mid October but that doesn't mean that they are in the rut and they won't respond to the scent. I'd wait until you see scrape lines and tore up trees rather than a rub or scrape here and there.
phade
Scrapes are opening now (meaning the ground rather than licking branch) in some areas. Here's a dink working one.
NYbuck50
I've never used a dripper. I will hit all my stands around 1st week in september and clear a mock scrape with my boot and pee in it before i leave. ive had mixed results with this, some are left untouched, others ive seen use. Never got into the scents that much, as i was never really sure if it would help or hurt.
