Still in velvet..

I sat one of my stick blinds last night and spotted two fawns under an apple tree off the powerlines.

They came out from the cover when I saw what I thought was mama coming next.

That's when this velvety spiker stepped out. Getting kinda late for that stuff even if it is just a spiker..

It seems like it's running a bit late around here too. I have a mixed bag of velvet and bare on the cameras now. I wish they tacked the extra week on the end of regular bow and pushed gun back a week, but that's just me.

I'm seeing a mix too and some areas I'm seeing a lot of rubs and even a scrape. Other areas have no rubs.

Latest I've seen a spike shed was Oct 18th. most if not all the big boys are rubbed out now. Little guys take longer.. think they are repressed by presence of older bucks.

Went up to delware county 2 weeks ago and didn't see any rubs. Was up in colombia this past weekend and only saw one rub with a little blood at the top. Really no rub activity so far in the places I have been. Threw the cameras out and will see whats roaming around the first weekend of bow. Hopefully I'll capture some shooters.

the couple bucks that show up in my back yard basically lost their velvet overnight. one day full velvet, the next shiny white. not even anything hanging.

three bucks on my camera today had full velvet.  I personally do not remember seeing them this late with velvet.

a guy I work with who's based out of Kentucky was talking with me about this. I don't understand the appeal of shooting a velvet buck, and he thought it would be cool.

I had pics last year of a huge buck where the velvet was just starting to crack on Sept.12th. A neighbor sent me pics of the same buck and he still had quite a bit of it's velvet hanging on Oct. 18th. Very unusual.....
