sampotter
This year the full moon is supposed to be on the 12th, right? A few days after that it will get rocking.. I hope because that is when I have time off.

WNYBuckHunter
Last night on my way home from work, I saw a 2 1/2 ish looking buck completely dogging a doe through a cut corn field. Not just following her around, but full on running her, cutting her off, trying to herd her almost. Pretty neat to watch, but the doe was not interested. The young bucks are starting to get goofy, but I think weve got another week or week and a half before things really ramp up for the big boys. I think Charles Alsheimer hit the nail on the head this year.

zeke83
When Alsheimer predicts the rut and gives the best days to hunt...is that actually the "seeking and chasing" or the breeding time? I would think the best time to hunt would be during the seeking phase. During the "peak rut" you would think the bucks have the doe held up waiting to breed, which causes less movement Im not debating the theory or if it works or not.....but what is the "Best time to hunt"? WNYBuckHunter
He says to take time off during the seeking and chase phase. Bucks are locked down during the peak breeding phase.
UpStateRedNeck
According to Field & Stream (here's a grain of salt with your late morning coffee), things will be heating up starting tomorrow, pheremones in the air etc etc. A few doe in season, not enough to go around, driving the boys mad.
