Facemask or facepaint?

Facemask. Never tried paint, and to be 100% honest, I'd feel stupid putting on war paint like an Indian about to scalp settlers or a Navy SEAL getting ready to take out Bin Laden. Plus if I have to stop at the store on the way home, I might get shot for being a stickup man.

Silly question, but other than warmth, how important is camouflaging the face really? Is the goal pattern break, reflection, scent, all of the above?

 

I guess my real question is: Can not camouflaging the face prevent a harvest?

I think so, especially while ground hunting. If you have ever seen another hunter in the woods you will notice how much their face seems out of place if uncovered.

I use a nice mask that matches my camo perfectly.  Keeps face warm in cold weather, keeps the scent from my head contained and its much easier to take off.  I would argue that covering your face might be the most important camo you put on because it shines in uv light more than most clothing.

It breaks up your outline mostly, same as any other piece of camouflage.

I don't care for heavy masks, tried em, and too constricting.  The caps used for turkey hunting with the pull down mesh is just enough during bow and is breathable and comes down easy if you don't feel like wearing it all the time.

I don't use anything until it gets cold and then I use a mask. Although this year I have a beard so maybe my face won't get cold!

I do know a lot of successful hunters that don't use anything at all. And kill nice bucks. Preference I guess. Just gives me a peace of mind to have my face covered

I use a mask mostly for warmth, I pull it down when a deer comes in so I can feel the string better.

Paint but just a few black or brown lines down my cheeks and nose I have to feel the string I be leave if you don't move they don't see you but I could be wrong. I have had them look at me for awhile and go back to feeding with out another care

It helps cut down the reflection coming off of your face .

Face paint, masks seem to cause issues with hunters getting contact with string when using a bow. A package of baby wipes will take the face paint off when done hunting for day.
