Live From the Stand / Woods 2014!

8F, been dead where I hunt until today. Had a group of deer go by my stand this morning. Too thick to see just how many. This afternoon I passed on a pretty decent eight pointer feeding on some clover and corn (hoping to see the big guy). A while after he left a doe and button buck came into the corn. I shot the doe and she dropped. So now I'll have a little meat for the freezer and be able to keep waiting for a big buck to show.

I ended up stuck in stand until 5:40 I had buttons under me and then the doe I shot at with the other doe and fawn came in 10 mins after dark...so OK a bit embarrassed about missing what should have been chip shots ...but glad I didn't wound and not recover...she was well in rage with the browning 20 but after hours is after hours ..be it 5-10 mins...and God last shot tonite was at 5:18...give me a freaking break close was 4:45...it was dark enough that I...admittedly not a small person and not very limber with these knees........... was able to climb out of stand and down ladder with out spooking deer 25 yrds awa. lots of snow and still falling...should be a great morning...

At Sterling. Bumped into 5 hunters on my hike on. Haven't heard a single gun shot all day so far. Where the heck are the deer?

In back yards, or hiding as best they can! What part of the park are you in

Got up this morn saw 20 on the temp and the trees blown sideways and said nope!! Took the two does to the butcher see if I can sneak out for a bit later if the wind drops some.

That's what I should have done. I went out though and only made it until 8am before I was about froze solid. Wind was no better by afternoon so but should be better by morning. I didn't see anything but some turkeys this morning.

Even the mr buddy heater on high could not keep up with the cold....just two fawns minutes before close....and I really need to get those other blinds done ...it was so nice leaning over the heat to soak up some warmth

I can't catch a break and have been playing cat and mouse with these two boys...and the longer it goes the less tines they have...lol....there have been some rip roaring battles this year....well I know that late morning early afternoon is going too be a must in this area... that second pic...I was hunting a mere 100yrds directly up hill from where he walked through...seeing nothing :sorry:

Unreal day. Was an absolute blizzard with visability going from 10 feet to 50yrds all day long. This evening was crazy, when I could see- the deer were running mad. Saw more deer today than since opener ! And of course, just as it got late..... this old boy came through and I let him eat an ounce of the good stuff !! Treeguy has officially had the best year ever.

Cold and very windy sit today in 4 H. Had a spike come by at seven thirty, heading up the ridge. Doe and two fawns come down the same trail around two. Still very little movement since opening day in my neck of the woods. I may have to hunt another property tomorrow.

Took this morning off to recharge and regroup. It's been really slow here as far as deer movement goes. Going out soon to hunt a different property. I'm off work until Monday so hoping to give it my best shot till then. I will not give up until the last minute of the last day of the season. I am hoping to get it done sooner rather than later though. We will see! Good luck and keep hanging in there to all who have not connected yet!

OMG!!! I went thru 3 packs of foot and hand warmers and still only lasted 3hrs....6/10 hours my a$$!...I had such a pain in my feet from cold I took my boots off to replace foot warmers while on stand...the ones I took out were cold....hand warmers weren't any better today...any how went to where I know the buck are walking through and at 7:10 I past on a really nice 5pt...he will be a great buck in a couple of years...one side was wide and curved out to his nose and had a crab claw and brow tine ....the other side did the same with just a brow...he came in and I got ready until I saw his bodysize......  was much small then the archery  6pt buck. Then I got a good look at the rack...he stopped directly infront of me broad side at 18yrds...then continued on to the bedding area....nosed around there in circles, then went up and I think walk past a cam...I'll check in a day or two...I'm back in trying to warm up...it was so cold that the seat pad I brought bent over the wooden seat,,,and it was frozen in that position even though I was sitting on it...resting my feet on a heating pad right now....

Ps ........I saw the prettiest thing as I was getting ready to leave...2 flocks of swans flew over calling and then as I was half way down the ladder 4 flew just a few feet over the tree tops directly over my head...at first thought they were snow geese but the ones over my head had really long thin necks and jet blk heads...the sun was shining on them and they were against a beautiful blue sky...wish I had the camera on me...

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
