25-06 for deer.

Anyone hunt deer with this round? What is a good factory load for it?

My grandfather use to hunt with this round and numerous deer dropped throughout his years hunting. I am pretty sure he use to use 120 grain bullet and I want to say it was Remington SP's but I am not 100% on what bullet.

Thanks…I can get a rifle chambered in 25-06 for practically nothing. Don't rally need it and I love my current deer rig. But……..

25.06 will work just fine, under 50 yards possibly a little meat loss cause those bullets are high velocity, I use Hornaday american whitetail 117gr Interlock.

I don't care for Remington products but I have had good luck taking deer with Remington Express 120 gr Core-Lokt ammo .

I have also taken a few with reloads using Sierra Game King 117 gr spitzers with Hodgden 4831 powder and an OAL of 3.155" .

I recently purchased 3 boxes of Hornaday American Whitetail 117 gr Interlocks to try out ..... Didn't really need them but the price was pretty good .

 

A 270 is an excellent deer round and less expensive than the 25-06 .

Ive seen a 25-06 do some real damage to a deer so I wouldn't be opposed to it.

_{Personally I think it is the best whitetail caliber, especially for this area... Of all the deer I've shot with it only 2 have moved from where they stood... 1 went 20 yards, the other a big 9 point went 25 yards.. I use Federal Fusion 120 grain...}

The 25-06 is an excellent deer cartridge. Probably one of the best for long range work.

 

If it has a down side it is the fact that in order to achieve it's best performance with the slow burning powders that it favors, it requires at least a 24 inch barrel.  No big disadvantage, unless you prefer a short, light rifle.
