cloke
Hunted nj for the first time on dec 6 which was the opening day for gun and their 1st bear hunt in 5yrs, well i jumped on the opportunity. Got in position by 615 and within half hour had a bear run in and stopped in front but behind some dead falls so didnt risk it,hang around till 11 cause couldnt take the wind anymore my feet froze went to warm up and ate, came back on stand at 130ish and continued to freeze my pawls off til 437 when this bad boy presented its self at 50 yards which ended in with a quick kill, didnt run more than 25 yards in the thickest ish and within seconds heard his death moan which put me at ease to go in there and retreive him at last light and into total darkness and then to get him out was :-[ > ??? :'( yea no JOKE!~ It took 3 of us and almost 2 hours but ending in a dream come true, im still bugging. He was harvested in zone3 at wawayanda state park and weighed 265# THANX JERSEY!

burmjohn
Nice bear! When does the season end? Its been quite active in the news since its the first years in a quite a few that bear season opened... And the fact that there are all these Anti's protesting the bear hunting season saying that they over estimated the herd... But 500 bear in a few days is pretty impressive no? Karpteach
Great looking bears! I think I would have waited to get the bear in the AM (or had huge spot lights). I've been watching the hunt results on TV, seeing all the PETA jerks crying and yelling, glad the hunt went on.

The number of bears killed speaks volumes as to the need to manage the population. I wonder just how many of those anti hunters live in areas where the bears have posed a serious problem! Mr VJP
Stokes State Forest in NW NJ at 9:30AM on Saturday 12/11/10. This Bear had an estimated live weight of 300 pounds. It dressed out at 260. It was taken with one shot to the heart at 75 yards from a Savage Bolt Action 12 gauge 210F slug gun with a fully rifled barrel and a Nikon 2x7 scope. The ammo was a Lightfield Hybrid Sabot Slug. The bear took one jump and died 10 yards from where it was shot. It will become nice rug for my home in the Catskills.
