Packing down trails

Normally I walk all the trails to pack and open them up for the deer...Well the

 

gator and I have been busy doing the main trails while I still hike the side ones...I do believ they enjoy the effort.....

Yep, they are trying to conserve energy this time of the year and they will use them in there travels.

I did the same thing with my JD with chains on it and they also followed the trails I made.

I did the same thing yesterday after clearing more of the food plot. Went around almost every trail. I had tracks over mine when I came out for lunch.

Traveled deer trails this A.M. shedding & Maple tapping.  Got up close and personal with 9 of em, some good size ones too. They looked really good and fit. March, early April will tell the story though.

Good deer management!!!  Every little bit helps in the winter that's for sure.  I'm always amazed at how well equipped they are to survive winters.  Not a big deal for them to survive on LI as our ground cover is usually minimal and usually does not last as long as inland snow areas. 

 

I wonder if a study has ever been done on winter herd management and keeping trails good vs no trail management.  One thing is for sure, they all benefit!

I saw 7 deer the other day walking in the woods all together, still hitting those acorns.
