Frost seeding

Anyone done or thinking about doing frost seeding soon? i was hoping for exposed ground but its not melting as fast as i had hoped.

You don't need bare ground. Already seeded this past weekend.

 

You need to make sure you take advantage of the heaving nights soon.

I never frost seed when there is this much snow...we are still mid calf high...when the snow is gone and we are getting warmer days with freezing night then I s frost seed...when doing this over inches of snow, if you have any incline in your land, you risk a rapid melt and the seed washing or even blowing away ...we are having very high winds again...So I depends on where in the state you are.

To early and too much snow pack,heavy rains and met.will wash more seed.away than what makes it to the ground,april is the earliest I would try it normally.

Like grow indicated if you are frost seeding over several inches of snow with no melt in sight you risk seed being eaten by birds, wind and if there is a drastic change in temps with a good thaw potential of seeds being washed away or piling up in spots. Wait for bare fozen ground with increase in temps. In near future, that week or thereafter.

I was always told that you should frost seed when there is still a little snow on the ground so the snow will help settle the seeds in the soil.

I was told to seed before a big snow storm then as it melts in spring it settles into ground. I always time it wrong thinking  Aw this snow will melt quickly and then it never does, storm after storm keeps coming and it's then to late.
