Buckwheat in my on my property equals deer magnet. Only thing is it is planted late and harvest when 3/4 of the seeds are ready. So a field may still look green may be there today and harvested tomorrow. I have had this happen to my on a soybean field. I had deer all patterned (this was when bow opened on the Oct 15th), they where hitting this bean field hard every morning and night. Had a stand all setup. Went out opening morning to get to my stand the farmer harvested the beans on me the day before. Alot has to due with how much moisture content they farmers wants. The farmer that farms my land has a buyer for higher moisture corn, so I have seen them harvest the corn even when the stalks are green.

One needs to think long term .......also being a short season crop he will more than likely....if smart...put in a winter crop after the buck wheat.

.Clearly minerals are important in antler development. Because of the large quantities of minerals required for antler growth, whitetails actually deposit calcium and phosphorous in their skeletons prior to the onset of antler growth and then transfer these minerals during active growth (Stephenson and Brown 1984). However, these body sources of calcium and phosphorous provide only a portion of that needed for optimum antler growth. The remainder must come directly from their diet while their antlers are actively growing. Therefore, supplementation of these minerals prior to and during antler growth may be beneficial.
