How often to check you cameras

Depends on what time of year it is and what I’m looking for. I have 1 that is on the same tree and keep it up all year and only check it twice a year. I also have a cheap 1 I keep in my back pack and if I kill a deer I put it on the gut pile. That stays up a few days to a week. Most are up Memorial Day to 4th of July then 4th of July to Labor Day. Then to the start of the season after that I may move them around when I see something that needs a better look.

Fairly straight forward question, but with no right, wrong or correct answer! Depends on the property you hunt, if you own, lease or have permission to hunt, how you access the cams (by foot or ATV), how you justify any human intrusion and mostly the distance or accessibility to the property. Almost forgot, how much time you can afford to take out of your busy life's schedule to go & check your cams.

In a perfect world, we'd all have lots of disposable income and own several of those expensive trail cams with solar panels and cellular transmitted photos. Yeah, right!?! In my world - I'm retired and live close to my property, so time is not an issue! Own my property and pay taxes on it, so it's hard to justify not enjoying it as much as I can. Am on my property ~3-4/week from about April thru Labor Day doing maintenance, upkeep, improvements &/or stand relocating. So the deer get used to my ATV , chain sawing, mowing intrusions. Evident by trail cam photos seen from subsequent SD card swaps. For me, it's ~ every 5 days that I check my cams. Completely different scenario or set of rules for other philosophies, situations or properties!!

A lot of my trail cams are not even set in my deer hunting areas. I like to get pictures of other critters too. Ha-ha-ha.... kind of like setting out a trapline to see what you can catch. Foxes, coyotes, coons, mink, muskrats, etc. are what I use my trail cams for. And I am still hoping to get some pics of a bear. In the past I have gotten so many deer pictures and then found that just because I can get pics of them, doesn't mean that I will ever see them again. Heck it doesn't even mean that the are still in the area or ever will be again.

This year, I have not needed cameras for deer scouting purposes. This tropical rain forest that the woods is turning into leaves some very clear mudded up deer trails to tell the story.

Could be monthly for me. Being I don't live at the cabin its when I get up there. I was last there August 1st. My brother is going up this weekend, he will check them. As for busting deer and leaving scent, 1 cam is off a major trail I mow and ride quads on. The deer get used to it. My other cam is down in the honey hole that doesn't have many visitors, both pick up nice deer.
