Yeah, Fearthebeard...In most areas, rutting activity comes to an abrupt HALT the first few days of season, at least during daylight hours...

By the way, did anybody ever tell you that your head is on sideways ?...<<grin>>....

With the gun, the trick unfortunately is that over the years observe and pattern the hunters, and use that info to figure out where they will push the deer. Then set up an intercept position at the most reliable escape routes or areas.

I love using those two legged animals to push for me while in stand , the deer are always 50 yards in front of them and they never see them !

I always hunt escape routes opening day or two, then thanksgiving and weekend, after that no,one seems to hunt, being thanksgiving week, I expect the whole week to be escape route hunting,

I watch over the nastiest tangle of woods on the mountain on opening day. 2nd day I watch the trail headed out of said nasty tangle. I'm the only idiot I know willing to get to this area and it pays off.

I sit all day on the edge of thick escape cover where I have a clear shot and let the deer come to me. Works like a charm especially opening day!
